Scholarships and Awards – January 2016

2016 Ge-Regan Foundation Scholarship program – awards college scholarships to high school Seniors who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan at school, in the community, in the workplace, and at home. Recipients receive $10,000 renewable scholarships deadline to apply January 7, 2016; apply online at

Texas Engineering Foundation – will award scholarships to students studying to become engineers in an engineering program at an ABET-Accredited college or university. Applications are available in Ms. Rawls office room B110 along with a list of ABET accredited colleges and universities. Deadline to apply is January 8, 2016.

Bay Area Chorus Scholarship application – will be awarded to a student planning to major in vocal music education at an accredited university or college. Your application, transcript, evaluation and 150 word essay must be postmarked no later than Friday, January, 8, 2016. Applications are available in room B110 or apply online at bayareachorus.org.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program- established in 1999, and was initially funded by a 1 billion dollar grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential. Support is for the cost of education by covering unmet need and self-help aid, including graduate school funding for continuing Scholars in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.3 and be African American, American Indian - Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, Hispanic American and be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident / Foreign National and a high school senior.

RMHC U.S. SCHOLARSHIPS- offer scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. Since 1985, more than $56 million in scholarships have been awarded.Graduating high school seniors may only apply for one of the four scholarships.

The University of Houston Leaders and Achievers Scholarship -The recipient will be selected on the basis of outstanding efforts in leadership. Applicants are asked to submit the following:

1. Completed Application

2. Official transcript with cumulative GPA

3. List of extracurricular activities and achievements

4.A 500-word essay describing your leadership roles andhow you have given back to your community.

5.Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar withyour leadership abilities and community involvement.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation’s Student Leaders® Program – since its inception in 2005, the Bank of America Student Leaders® Program has recognized more than 2,200 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities. The Program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:

  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work

Experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.

  • The week-long, all-expense paid Student leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 10-15, 2016. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and

business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

Baylor University Carr P. Collins Scholarship- was established in 1993 to recognize academically gifted students who are dedicated to helping others in an effort to develop leaders of tomorrow through the gift of higher education.

Texas Student Housing – this scholarship is open to students accepted to colleges in Austin, College Station, or Denton, Texas, that have not signed off-campus housing leases.

Houston Golf Association – has awarded grants-in-aid totaling more than $1,120,000 to deserving students in the greater Houston community since 1996. The association awards scholarships based on academics and need. Golf skills play no role in the selection process. Up to two “technical studies” scholarships are awarded for students who plan to major in geosciences or engineering. Up to three general disciple scholarships can be awarded.

The Daily News Leslie P Daughtry Scholarship – will honor a high school senior as the student Citizen of the Year and recipient of the Leslie P. Daughtry scholarship who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a high school senior who will continue their education after high school.
  • Must display leadership qualities at school, or in the community.
  • Must make a difference in the lives of others.
  • Financial need should be considered. Graduate associates

George and Mary Hamman Foundation Scholarship - Each Spring, the Foundation awards seventy (70) scholarships to Houston area high school seniors for undergraduate study. The award is $18,000., disbursed over four years, provided the recipient conforms to the requirements set forth in the award. Applications can be downloaded at

ELIGIBILITY:

  • High School Seniors after the start of their senior year.
  • Houston area high school seniors who attend schools or are homeschooled in the following eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery or Waller.
  • Students who are citizens of the United States. Students with Permanent Resident status are not eligible.
  • The Scholarships are awarded based on academics and financial need.

National College Resources Foundation – win scholarship money by writing an essay on “Why is a College Education Important to Me?” –all entries are to be typed, double spaced and embedded in the email (no attachments). Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union -will present scholarships two scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing an Education Degree. The scholarships are $500.00 per semester for 4 years, provided the requirements are met each semester.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Omega Delta Zeta – will award a scholarship to qualified college-bound, high school seniors, from Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris counties.

Completed application must be received and post marked no later than March 1, 2016, in order to be considered for the scholarship. Applications are to be mailed to: Omega Delta Zeta Scholarship Committee, 3118 FM 528, PMB 273, Webster, Texas 77598.

Texas Women’s University – rewards more than $9 million in scholarships annually, including many just for new freshman. Most students are able to retain their scholarship for up to four years. These awards may be based on academic merit, financial need, or both. Once a student has submitted their Apply Texas admissions application, we encourage them to complete the TWU scholarship application online. Students can go to and click on the “Apply Now” icon. They must submit their online application before our March 15th, 2016 deadline.

Applying for Scholarships at Texas Women’s University

How to Apply for Scholarships

  • After you create your Portal Account, go to and apply for scholarships when system opens on October 12th.

You do not need to be accepted or admitted to a program to be eligible to apply for scholarships. But, scholarships will not be awarded until you are accepted. Be sure to get all of your required documents in as soon as possible.

The Texas Telephone Association Foundation (TTAF) -a non-profit, philanthropic organization founded to help further the understanding of telephony and advance telecommunications as a career choice, will award six, four-year scholarships, in the amount of $1,500 per year to students entering college for the 2016-2017 school year.

Through March 18, 2016, the TTA Foundation will accept applications for scholarships to be granted beginning Fall 2016. It is our intention to fully review every application submitted. Therefore, TTA Foundation will accept a maximum of two qualified applications per high school counselor. (For example, if your school has three counselors, you may submit a total of six applications.) The Scholarship Committee will make its selections from those applications which meet the following criteria and include the required materials:

♦ U.S. Citizen;

♦ Student graduating from a Texas high school no later than June 2016;

♦ Student achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher (out of a possible 4.0);

♦ Student planning to attend a Texas college or university by the Fall of 2016;

♦ A completed application postmarked no later than March 18, 2016, including a current transcript

♦ A letter of acceptance from a Texas college or university where student has been accepted.

♦ Copy of student’s SAR (Student Aid Report).

Please note--special consideration will be given to students who will be pursuing a college degree in fields of study which are of particular interest to telecommunications (such as math, business, education, technology, engineering, and computer science, etc.).

TEXAS PRIDE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TARGETS EXCELLENCE IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Supporting the demand for a skilled workforce in Texas, Mahindra USA Inc., and CTAT continue to partner in offering scholarships to Texas high school seniors participating in CTE to pursue a college education.

CTE students are among the nation's most productive, innovative and dedicated students, and we are honored to recognize their achievements by providing scholarships to further their education.

Students scheduled to graduate high school during the 2015-16 school year and actively enrolled in CTE throughout their high school career are eligible to apply. Students must have successfully completed at least three credits in two or more CTE courses and currently be enrolled in a CTE course for the fall and/or spring semester of their senior year.

Interested students may apply on-line at by Thursday, March 31, 2016.

Texas City Lodge #118 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons - is a fraternal society whose main purpose is to promote good character and other outstanding qualities. Texas City Masonic Lodge No. 1118 will award the Masonic Scholarships to one male and one female student for $1000.00 each. In addition, each will receive the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award of Excellence medal.

Melinda Webb Memorial Scholarship – only high school female students in their senior year at TCHS, will be eligible to receive one of two $1,000.00 scholarships. The recipients must have at least a 3.0 GPA; take a full load of 12 or more credit hours.

Northside Elementary PTO – will award two $500.00 scholarships, one to each of two graduating seniors.

  • Applicants must have attended Northside Elementary for a minimum of four consecutive years
  • Applicate must complete the application by deadline
  • Payment will be send to the institution of higher learning upon proof of enrollment
  • Applicant must use Scholarship in the Fall Semester of year received or Spring Semester of the following year (IE receives May 2016) must use Fall 2016or Spring 2016)

Amoco Federal Credit Union Scholarship - The AMOCO Scholarship is designed to foster new generations of business leaders and credit union advocates. Three of the scholarships include a $1,000 award and a paid summer internship. Applicants also have the opportunity to apply for the George F. Ballis Honorarium Scholarship, an award that will be granted to one individual that exemplifies the late George F. Ballis. The one winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship and a paid summer internship.

$10,000 per year for eligible SFA STEM majors

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED THROUGH THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS

To be considered, you must:

1. Enter SFA as either an incoming freshman or a new transfer student beginning in fall 2016

2. Complete the SFA STEM Scholarship application and return it to the dean’s office located in the Miller

Science Building Room 100, by 5 p.m. April 1, 2016

3. Declare a STEM major

4. Submit at least one letter of recommendation from a STEM faculty member (college or high school, as

appropriate)

5. Enroll as either an incoming freshman with a math SAT/ACT of at least 600/26 OR as a transfer student

with at least a 3.0 GPA in the major and at least a 3.5 GPA cumulatively

6. Advance through the interview process with the STEM scholarship committee.

Each scholarship recipient receives $10,000 per year, up to four years, provided the student maintains the scholarship

requirements. The student must make appropriate progress each semester toward the degree requirements for the major.

The Rotary Club of Texas City FRANK C. WEBB TRUST-offers scholarship through their local Rotary Foundation and Frank K. Webb Foundation to students based on their academic, extracurricular, vocational and service activities, as well as financial need. They will award scholarships for $2,000.00. Some may be a one-time payment, or a $2,000.00 scholarship renewable for up to five years, and/or a Rotary Vocational scholarship for $2,000.00.

Applications are available in room B110 and the deadline to apply is April 1, 2016.

Kiwanis Club – will award four $500 scholarships to students who display strong dedication to community service activities. The local Kiwanis Club sponsors the local chapter of the Key Club as well.

Mary Cecile Chambers –it is renewable for 4-5 years of college until a Bachelor’s degree is achieved. It pays a minimum of $1,750 per semester (two semesters a year). The criteria are for young men living in Texas with a good work ethic and a desire to attend college; it is not based on grades alone. Tis scholarship was set up by Mary Cecile Chambers, a private individual, in her Last Will and Testament and has been on-going since 1970.

Tejas Bluebonnet Trails Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century – provides financial assistance in the amount of $500 to a student in pursuit of a higher education at Galveston College, College of the Mainland, or San Jacinto College.
