The Texas Capitol

(1) My class just returned from a field trip to the Texas Capitol building. (2) The building is located in Austin, texas. (3) It was built in 1888, and still stands as a symbol of pride in the lone Star State. (4) It is the largest capitol building in the United States!

(5) Did you know that Texans once argued over which city should be the capital? (6) In 1843, some people wanted Houston to be the capital of Texas. (7) They sent men to steal the government’s records from Austin.

(8) The thieves almost got away with it! (9) But a woman named angelina Eberly was watching and caught them in the act. (10) She ran to the street and fired a big cannon. (11) The sudden noise from the cannon scared the thieves off!

(12) Eberly’s quick thinking had saved the day. (13) The people of Austin got the records back, and Austin remains the capital of Texas to this day.

(14) Angelina eberly is a hero to Texas. (15) There is even a large statue of her in downtown Austin. (16) Both the Texas Capitol and Eberly’s statue are sights you will want to see in Austin.
