Social Studies Project/Presentations 2011-2012

Description: You will be working in groups of 3 and covering something you are interested in learning more about which took place after the “Civil War” (April 9th 1865) through the start of World War I (1914-1919) . Find something the group is really interested in so that your research is worthwhile. Bring your textbook to the Library to assist you. You may cover anything from pages 543-715. Examples of past projects are topics like The Assassination of Lincoln by J.W. Booth, Second Industrial Revolution, Cattle Kingdom: Cowboys, Edison: The Wizard of Menlo Park, Chinese Exclusion Act 1882 and Racism, Plessey V. Ferguson: Separate is NEVER Equal, The Gilded Age: Presidential Scandals, etc... There are many options and this should be fun!

Physical Project:

OPTIONAL and will be worth extra credit!

Written Project:

1-The body of the group paper needs to be 9 pages (note: this is for 3 people).

2-The essay must flow and be one essay and NOT 3 or 4 fragmented papers.

3-Must contain a Cover Page (with names and project title) Thesis, Body, Conclusion, and Bibliography page.

4-The Bibliography/Sources Cited page needs to have at least 2 book sources (Your class text shall not count) and a total of no less than 3 sources.

5-The entire paper needs to be in Times New Roman, font 12 or less.

6-Double spacing is permitted.

7-Do NOT use .com sources or Wikipedia for any reason what so ever!

8-Papers found to contain plagiarism or entire section cut from websites will receive minus 150% for the entire paper!

9-A handwritten rough draft will be due with all of your printed web sources at midway for 50% of your written grade. This eliminates plagiarism and if it isn’t sourced…don’t write about it! If we have turnitin.com available that may be used to verify originality.

Presentation:

1-No gum chewing or leaning on the wall or podium during your presentation. Think of this as a practice run for your senior presentation.

2-Each group member must present an equal amount of time.

3-The presentations must show evidence of several rehearsals and advanced planning.

4-DO NOT read from pages. Have your information memorized and at the very least use pre-written 3x5 note cards.

5-Always use good eye contact. Know your research and material. Be an expert!

6-Those absent the day of their groups presentation shall not receive points (0).

7-Groups with missing members will present as scheduled so prepare in advance.
