RE:Virginia State Bar-Young Lawyers Conference

Minority Pre-Law Conference 2009

Dear Sir or Madam:

Every year, the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference hosts the Minority Pre-Law Conference to encourage minority undergraduate students to consider the legal profession as a career. Through this program, the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference seeks to expose students to all phases of developing a legal career from the law school admissions process to the selection of career opportunities. This year’s conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia.

As in previous years, the program will include workshops on the law school admissions process, financial aid, a presentation on the LSATs, a mock law school class, and panel discussions on law school student experiences and career opportunities in the legal profession. We are in the process of planning the event and have many exciting speakers and panelists volunteering their time for the benefit of this conference and the students. This program is open to students attending Virginia schools or Virginia residents attending District of Columbia schools. The event is free of charge for prospective students and is an invaluable source of information for those interested in pursuing a legal career.

Each year we ask law schools around the country to attend the conference for the Law School Fair. This year, we have scheduled the Law School Fair portion of the conference from 1:15-2:45. The students will have the opportunity visit with each law school representative and learn about the law school and the opportunities available to them. In past years, some law schools have had local alumni represent the schools for the Law School Fair. Last year we had over 130 students in attendance and over 30 law schools present for the fair. If you are unable to send a representative or have local alumni attend, please send any materials you would like to have for us to make available for the students. The materials should be sent the attention of Samantha Ahuja at the address below.

Please complete the enclosed registration form to let us know if you will send a representative for the Law School Fair. Please return the registration form to my attention at the address provided below. In the past, the students have found this portion of the conference an important aspect of the conference. We will have a table available for your representative and for any materials you wish to send. We hope that your law school will be available for this important conference.

Should you have any questions about the conference or the Law School Fair, please feel free to contact Samantha Ahuja at 202.530.8552 or .
