Dear Parents
Re:Talented Artist
Name:Form:
At The Stanway School there is a climate where achievement is expected from all pupils in accordance with their ability. The school provides a challenging curriculum enabling every learner to fulfil his/her potential, catering for pupils with a whole range of abilities; including those of high and outstanding ability.
Hence, I am writing to inform you that we have identified your child as being ‘talented’ in art. This means that they have exceptional skills within this subject area. As such, they will be placed on the ‘Talented Artist Register’, allowing us carefully monitor their progress and pitch homework and class work activities at the appropriate level.
A ‘talented’ artist will:
- Be creatively aware, work independently and demonstrate artistic empathy.
- Often spend time outside of the curriculum, painting, drawing, doodling or using art software and the internet.
- Have great powers of observation.
- Recreate fine detail accurately within their observational drawing.
- Show a natural understanding of perspective and dimension.
- Demonstrate an advanced and sensitive use of texture, tone, shape, form and line.
- Often select interesting and striking compositions, e.g.) unusual viewpoints and close up details.
- Have a good spatial awareness.
- Show independence and confidence when manipulating materials and applying a wide range of materials.
- Demonstrate an aesthetic understanding and appreciation of their own work and others.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of critical and contextual studies and apply them to their own work.
- Demonstrate sensitivity, appreciate meaning and purpose.
The ArtDepartment at The Stanway School is committed to ensuring that talented pupils are recognised, supported, inspired and challenged to ensure that they do not underachieve and that they maximise their potential. The ArtDepartment aims to provide its ‘Talented Artists’ with opportunities to work at a higher cognitive and creative level. Students need a richness and variety within the curriculum and opportunities for extension beyond it. Therefore, I would like to invite your child participate in the joint Geography and Art trip to KewGardens. Further details are attached.
There will be additional opportunities for ‘talented artists’ throughout Key Stage 3. In the meantime, please pass on my congratulations to your child for their achievements so far.
Yours sincerely
Miss Lizzie Allen
