TO:El CAJON COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

RE:SELECTION OF EL CAJON’S 2011 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Beginning in 1955 El Cajon has honored through its civic, service, and fraternal organizations a deserving Volunteer for the person’s civil and community service. The honoree is feted at an annual luncheon attended by local dignitaries, residents, past recipients and civic leaders. Recent nominees have been: Harriet Stockwell, Lucille Moore, B. W. “Stoney” Stone, Jerry Hollingsworth, Wendell Cutting, Jillian Hanson-Cox, and too many others to name here. All contributors to the life style of our City and of the East County. This very special luncheon event has been alternately hosted on an annual basis by the El Cajon Valley Host Lionsand the Rotary Club of El Cajon. It has been proven that without volunteers many of the events and services enjoyed everyday would not exist.

This is your organization’s opportunity to demonstrate to your Volunteers, or to any of those that you may know, how much they are appreciated. Just by the recognition given by your nomination they are rewarded.

The Citizen of the Year Committee is reaching out to you asking that you nominate a candidate for recognition as the “2011 El Cajon Citizen of the Year”. Your nomination must be submitted on the attached Nomination form and must strictly comply with the Rules for Selection, also attached. Since the rules provide that an organization may not vote on nominees unless the organization is represented at bothSelection Committee meetings, we are also inviting you to attend those meetings. Both meetings will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce building, 201 South Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon. The first meeting of the Selection Committee is scheduled for December 5, 2011, to review the rules for selecting the 2011 Citizen of the Year. The second meeting is set for January 9, 2012, at which the 2011 selection will be made after the committee reads and considers all proper resumes for Nominees.

It is most important to remember that a representative from your organization must attend both meetings in order to be eligible to vote on January 9, 2012; it need not be the same person, however.

YOUR ORGANIZATION MAY NOMINATE AND NEED NOT VOTE. YOUR ORGANIZATION MAY NOMINATE AND VOTE, BUT ONLY IF A REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDS BOTH MEETINGS. A NOMINATING ORGANIZATION NEED NOT VOTE.

The 2011 El Cajon Citizen of the Year and all eligible nominees will be honored at the luncheon at noon on February 27, 2011, at the Ronald Reagan Community Center. Please join us in this celebration of community service by submitting your Nomination and honoring all those who voluntarily serve our City and the many fine organizations within. If you have questions, please call me at (619) 579-7555 or the Chamber office at (619) 440-6161.
