Dear Colleague

Re: Living Healthier, Staying Well Public Engagement Exercise

As some of you may already be aware from recent media coverage around last Friday’s Board meeting, the Health Board is about to embark on a significant programme of active public engagement.

The formal phase of this will start on 29th May, to coincide with a briefing of north Wales AMs and MPs, and will run until at least mid-July.

This work will seek to explain the challenges that the NHS faces and the demographic changes that we must respond to. We will also be seeking the public’s reaction to our strategic intention to shift our focus towards an increased emphasis on health promotion and the prevention of ill health, whilst making changes to acute hospital services to ensure these can match demand and meet clinical standards in the longer term.

The outcomes of this will be used, along with the more detailed work that we have been undertaking over the past couple of years with our clinicians and partners, to inform the development of our Integrated Medium Term Plan. If formal consultation is required on any specific service changes this is expected to take place towards the end of this year.

We are keen to engage as widely as possible with groups and organisations across North Wales to help us capture views that reflect the diverse opinions and needs of our communities. We want to identify what impact these proposals might have on members of the public and to understand what factors people consider to be the most important when we are assessing future options for service developments.

As part of this we would welcome the opportunity to share information to your members or to join meetings of either your health and social care networks or your wider membership, to explain and discuss this work and to identify the most effective ways to reach out to the groups they represent.

We will of course be guided by you on the most appropriate avenue through which we might engage with you and your members. If you would be willing to assist us in this way I would be most grateful if you could reply to me with an indication as to how you would wish us to progress this.

A colleague is also contacting the CVCs directly to ask if this work can be mentioned in your newsletters.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Andy Scotson
