SFGSA Green School Grounds Conference, October 8, 2004

Dear schoolyard greening nonprofits and businesses,

The San Francisco Green Schoolyard Alliance (SFGSA) is hosting its second Green School Grounds Conference on October 8th and 9th, 2004. Building on the successful conference held in October 2002, SFGSA plans to bring together over 200 K-12 teachers and community members from San Francisco and the greater Bay Area to learn more about creating and sustaining vibrant outdoor learning environments.

The conference will begin with a Friday night program featuring a keynote lecture given by Delaine Eastin, former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, a networking and resource fair, a silent auction, and opportunities for local green schoolyards to showcase their work. On Saturday, conference participants will select two half-day, hands-on workshops from a variety of schoolyard ecology and green building topics. Workshop participants will learn new skills, while also building physical improvements for three San Francisco Unified schools.

We would like to invite nonprofit organizations and businesses involved with greening schools to participate in our resource fair on Friday evening, October 8, 2004. Participants in the fair will receive a standard conference table space to showcase their services and resources related to schoolyard ecology. The resource fair will be open from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, before the keynote address, and if desired, after the address from 8:30 – 9:00 pm.

The enrollment fee for a resource fair table is $50 for nonprofit organizations and $100 for businesses. These fees include one complimentary ticket for the table attendant to Friday’s keynote address . Additional tickets to the evening’s events are $15/person. The deadline to register for a resource fair table is 4:00 pm, Friday, September 24, 2004. Space will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To reserve a table, please complete the attached resource fair registration form and return it with the enrollment fee to the address listed below on the letterhead.

Please note that we are also accepting donations for a silent auction to be held on Friday evening. If your organization is interested in donating an item for this SFGSA fundraiser, please complete the Silent Auction section on the attached registration form.

The Green School Grounds Conference fulfills a vital part of SFGSA’s mission to “green” the schoolyards of San Francisco’s public schools. Green school grounds are an important resource for teaching ecology-related lessons to our city’s urban students. They foster environmental literacy and bringing affordable hands-on learning to our city’s classrooms.
