The other positions will be a separate process of speeches and elections related to the Cultural or Sports position that they are going for.You are invited to attend any of these special occasions to support your child in their endeavours to achieve the highest level of student leadership.

The School Captain election process is outlined in the Student Leadership Policy, and states:
Student Council
The Student Council will be made up of the highest calibre Student Leader. 10 Year 5 students will be selected via application and election process. The Student Council is the main representative group for the student body. It provides an avenue for communication between the students and staff and provides opportunities for students to participate in the school’s decision making process. The Student Council coordinates events for students and staff to enhance school life and to raise money for various school based initiatives and community organisations.
The Student Council will be comprised of the 10 most capable leaders, influenced by the number and quality of the applicants, while allowing for representation of both genders at a ratio not greater than 70:30 (50:50 preferred). The final decision rests with the principal.
Sports Captain
Sports Captains and Vice Captains lead our sporting houses in inter-house sporting events and assist staff set up and run these events. They should be models of sportsmanship for their peers at all times.
Sports Captains and Vice Captains will be made up of 2 boys & 2 girls from Year 5 for each sports house and selected via application and election process. If there are not enough suitable Yr5 students, an outstanding Yr4 student could be nominated to a position. Students must be a Student Leader to apply. Along with their leadership abilities and behaviour record, a student’s sporting prowess should be considered most important when selecting students for these roles. Ideally, Sports Captains should be high profile sports people at Caloundra and ideally, not be Student Councillors, however there will be no rule that states that they can’t be on both the Student Council and be a Sports Captain/Vice-Captain. The final decision rests with the principal.
School Captain
School Captains and Vice Captains are the highest level of student leadership at Caloundra. They represent the school as a whole at community events, are themselves a promotion of our leadership program and assist the Student Council fulfil their responsibilities. School Captains & Vice-Captains will be elected from Year 5 Student Leaders via application and election process after being elected initially into the Student Council. Ideally, this will be 2 boys (one as Captain, the other as Vice-Captain) and 2 girls (one as Captain, the other as Vice-Captain), but this ratio may be influenced by the number and/or the quality of Student Councillors, resulting in an imbalance of genders represented. In this case, the 4 “most capable leaders” will be elected by students and staff, with the caveat that both genders must be represented. The final decision rests with the principal.
Cultural Captain
Cultural Captains and Vice Captains lead our cultural events, assisting with staff set up and running these events. They should be models of at least one form of The Arts ie. Music, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts or Media for their peers at all times. Cultural Captains and Vice Captains will be made up of 2 students from Year 5 and selected via an application and election process.
