Dear Golfer(?), December 2010

Re: Bingham RUFC Golf Day 2011 The Nottinghamshire (Cotgrave) – Friday 6th May

After last years highly successful day at Beedles Lake we are retaining the same format but moving to The Nottinghamshire (re-named Cotgrave Place under new ownership), where we have been able to secure an improved deal which should enable us to raise a reasonable sum for the Rugby Club without the aid of our sponsors.

Last year we raised £746.86 for the club of which £550 came from sponsors raised predominantly by Huw Thomas and Wayne Mason so a massive thanks to them and all our Sponsors. This year with the 40th celebrations happening a fortnight after the Golf Day, the Golf Day is being run without sponsorship for the year but will return to sponsored holes next year. Please note the date is also a fortnight earlier than previous years.

At last years event Wayne Masons team of Kev Rose, Darrel Rose, Steve Anders and Andrew Stoddard took the honours, closely followed by Bob Mycocks team of Bob , Huw, Paul Doherty and professional Paul Bagshaw (who lost his ball on the first hole then played the rest of the 17 holes for 7 under scratch!)

Jason Churchills team of JC, Chris Starr, Darren Smith and Brian Green came third. Nearest pins were won by Nial Moore (13th), Bram (8th) and Andy Payne (3rd) from Steve Anders on the one prize max rule. Steve Stalley bagged the longest drive from Bob Mycock using the same system.

In last place came Brian Jones, Eric Holden , Ian Coughtrey and Andrew Jones winning a much needed one hour group lesson with the Beedles pro. Though their complete capitulation on the 18th does raise suspicions as to whether tactics were involved to ensure a prize, and an excuse for a further day out.

Going off two tees made keeping track of the worst on the first difficult so in the absence of any slanderous gossip it was replaced by the worst strides competition in which Fretters dazzling banana ensemble just got him home in first place. Incidentally he was also stupid enough to record all his scores in a team competition which will result in him being cut next year for 41pts , along with Mr Bagshaw!

I’ve booked 60 places (15 tee time) for teams of 4 from 9.30 on Friday 6th May 2011. Again we will go off of two tees so we can all eat together (full English before and sandwiches and chips after).

Bookings can be made as a team of 4 which is preferable for me (see attached form) for £140, or if you can’t get a full four together, £35 each and I will form the teams.

The competition will comprise of 18 holes Stableford format, 2 scores from 4 to count per hole, and all 4 to count on holes 9 and 18. Prizes still to be worked out, depending on the response and hence the size of the kitty but similar to last year. So make an early entry in your diary and remember to book the time off work ! The Annual Players Dinner is on the same evening but this year will be a pie & peas dinner to keep the cost in check.

To help with the organisation this year we want to have numbers and money in by 28th February 2010, as this will determine the prize fund. So please enclose cheque made payable to Bingham RUFC, with your team / individual return slip and handicaps to the above address ASAP.

Yours sincerely

Acko (Graham Atkinson)
