  1. Initial Budget Allocation Hearings
  2. 6:00 – 6:15: Running

Running has some serious athletes (about 12 people) and would like to help them compete. They also want to do a relay. The NW Passage is newer and cheaper to get into than most others. 10 people will do that relay race; they will also need to provide volunteers and vehicles. Fundraising possibilities are expected to be higher than the $70 that was submitted on the budget request. They hold 2 practices a day.

  1. 6:15 – 6:30: Rugby

They need to buy safety equipment, which is a one time expense. Safety equipment protects them and helps keep new members around. League membership is required to compete with NW schools, and dues are required. They will look into the possibility of getting a discount on dues since they are new. They got $500 donated and used $ to buy jerseys, which they got for $50 each (down from $60-$75 through Farpost). The Turf field at PSU isn’t good – mud and grass is better. They need match balls; these should last 5-10 years. Field equipment is required by PNFRU, but could borrow from other teams (it would look bad though). PSU Intramurals program doesn’t have field flags. They’ll be playing their first ‘real’ games with the league this fall. It costs $75 / game for refs, which is payed for by PNFRU (hence the high dues). They’re planning to host 6 games. Reed, Western, Willamette, OIT(?) and others(?) are in league.

  1. 6:30 – 6:45: Ultimate Frisbee

The last practice had a good turnout – 20-25 people. Club is currently students + community members. Currently people bring their own discs. They play 3-5 times a week plus Sundays. Fridays at noon is the biggest turnout. We also learned that Alex A. says that Athletics has a big locker that might be usable by Rec Clubs in the Peter Stott Center.

  1. 6:45 – 7:00: Dragon Boat

They need $ for the Rose Festival Race – w/o it they won’t be able to race. In the past they’ve decided it wasn’t worth doing fundraisers because the payoff wasn’t worth the high amount of effort. Membership has fluctuated due to lack of individual funds.

  1. 7:00 – 7:15: LaCrosse

Their cost estimate for regulation quality goals is conservative. They lose lots of balls into the freeway or bushes, though they attempt to recover them (and they can’t get them in neon green – only white). They have 34 players, 50% of which have played before. They believe that high school graduates who play Lacrosse will stay in Portland and go to PSU if PSU has a LaCrosse program. Expect to do fundraising through garage sales and T-shirts. Uniforms bought will be kept for the club, even if members help purchase them. Mens soccer club has pennies that could be shared. Other local schools with teams: UO, Willamette, L&C.

  1. 7:15 – 7:30: [Break]
  2. 7:30 – 7:45: Fencing

Expected income from dues was low – it should be $525/year. Good equipment can last 20 years. Possible fundraising – grants available for starting clubs from division. Competitive events would be in Beaverton. There will be an Olympic level fencer/coach on the team.

  1. 7:45 – 8:00: Tango

Chairs are 50 cents each per night. The instructor they get gives them an awesome deal. Portland has a great Tango community. Tango club has higher turnover because club acts like funnel to get new dancers into the wider community. Workshops will be 1-2 days, more structured than practica… total cost expected to be $300/day (low estimate) serving 20-40 people. Dues are $20/term. Tango can’t function w/o weekly practica.

  1. 8:00 – 8:15: Breakin’

Needs $ for prize $ to attract the best dancers and improve turnout. Practices are open to everyone and they encourage new members – these happen every Friday and Sunday. Some of core members also teach at studios. Funding level last year: $900 (used for DJ, water, fliers, prizes). Size of event put on depends on how much $ is avail. Jenny suggested a “loan” where we make $ available but expect to get it back.

  1. 8:15 – 8:30: Medieval Combat

Hans said that money for food was very important for getting people to come to non practice events. He also said this year they didn’t need as much money because they built up their equipment last year and this year they just need to replenish it.

  1. 8:30 – 8:45: Water Polo

#1 desire: polo balls. It was noted that last year RCC did subsidize some uniforms (up to 50% of cost) that were not kept by school. Water Polo has 8 people currently signed up. Wants to not have dues so they don’t discourage new people from trying it out so they can build club. Uniforms won’t be shared. They don’t currently have a website; they’re setting up a listserve now.

  1. 8:45 – 9:00: Aikido

5-10 people @ practice; 11 people signed up. Open to all levels. Taught by volunteer – staff who teaches at PSU. Tenure and ability to pay will determine who goes to seminars. Will consider $5/term dues starting next term if seminars are paid for. Could expect to raise $50-$75. Practice is in the range room on Fridays 12-1pm.
