1. System Requirements
This tool is mainly developed for Windows 7 and Windows XP operating system. This instruction is intended for Z998 software update to version V1.0.0B19. If previously installed ZTE drivers are on your PC, you need to uninstall the drivers first before proceed.
To uninstall previously installed ZTE drivers, go to start>control panel>programs>Uninstall a program> Find ZTE drivers program and uninstall the program.
2. Instruction
First, it is always suggested to back up your personal contacts and your other personal information such as your photos or contacts to an SD card before a software update.
2.1 Driver installation
There are two driver files comes with the update tool, DriverSetup1.exe and DriverSetup2.exe. You must install DriverSetup1 first before you install DriverSetup2. To install the drivers, double click the driver file name and follow the instructions prompted as shown below.
2.2 Entering into FTM (Firmware Transfer Mode):
Step 1 You will need to prepare an USB cable with one end connected to your PC, while the other end is free, not connected to anything.
Step 2 Remove your SIM card from your Z998 phone but keep your battery installed.
Step 3 After installing the drivers, you need to start your Z998 in FTM mode. Hold the down volume key of Z998 and then push the power button of Z998 at the same time. With both buttons pushed down with one hand, you need to connect the other end of the USB cable to your Z998. Keep holding the down volume and power buttons until the Z998 screen shows FTM.
Now, your phone has entered into FTM mode. You phone is ready for firmware update.
2.3 Download firmware to your phone:
Step 1 Run DL_Z998_ATTV1.00.01.exe program. This is the download tool. When the download tool identifies your Z998 phone, the interface would display “READY” as the following figure.
Step 2 You can click the UPDATE button to begin. When it finished update, the tool will display “Update successful,” as shown below.
Step 3 Now, you can unplug the mobile phone. Close the upgrade tool.
3. Notes before you start
3.1 Be sure that your PC has more that 50% of battery or connected to AC power supply. This is to ensure that your update process would not be disconnected or stopped due to PC power loss.
3.2 Please install drivers correctly following the instruction at the beginning of this document.
3.3 When the upgrade software is running, do not run another upgrade tool.
