The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.

We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.
The digital team’s vision is to be ‘Digital by default, user-centered by design’, using the web to attract more and different supporters, and to pioneer the use of web and digital media to help us deliver our services to more vulnerable people in crisis.

Overall purpose of the role

The postholder will have responsibility for the creation of new online services on the British Red Cross website as well as managing and improving our existing ones. Typically this will involve liaising with the service to define the appropriate functionality, and creating the interactive forms so that visitors to the site can directly access services such as booking a wheelchair. The post holder will ensure all functionality is optimised for search engines, usability and accessibility and is error free. Other roles are responsible for donation forms and other transactions online.

Working with our service delivery team and our web development agency enable more people to directly access our services online. Using our content management system and/or working with our agency, take the lead on creating, changing and testing service request forms on the website, ensuring online payment facilities are available where necessary.

8.  Analyse and report on the results of using online registration and signup for the organisation, including service reached and administration costs saved.

9.  Analyse trends in website usage (including both internal and external search results) and identify potential gaps in content. Work with the web editor to enable people to find the information they’re looking for.

10.  Use Google Analytics to set up and manage goals and funnels to measure the effectiveness of service forms, making changes as appropriate to achieve higher conversion rates.

11.  Provide support to the online shop, making occasional urgent updates directly where possible and as required.

12.  Train website contributors to enable them to update appropriate sections of the website
