Raider Review – February 19, 2016

  • Do you know of someone who has made significant contributions to Reagan High School? Nominations for the Reagan High School Hall of Fame will be due by April 29, 2016 to Frank Martin, principal of Reagan. The Parent-Teacher-Student Association and Administration of Reagan High School established the Reagan Hall of Fame to recognize and honor individuals whose outstanding contributions have enriched the academic, artistic, and athletic programs and brought honor to the school through their leadership, character, achievement, and service.   • All 11th graders will take the ACT on March 1. 11th graders will be pre-bubbling answer sheets on February 24.
  • Make-up Cap and Gown photo information: Dates have been set by Lifetouch. You will need to call their office (765-7288) to schedule your appointment. These are NOT taken at Reagan but at their studio:

February 24 – starting at 2:00 PM

March 17 – starting at 2:00 PM

May 16 – starting at 4:00 PM

  • Seniors who still need to order a cap and gown need to see Mr. McAbee in Room 629 immediately. I can order your cap and gown, but Josten’s will bill you separately.
  • Seniors who received the information regarding the April 27 trip to the Winston-Salem Dash are reminded that the $11.00 fee and the completed permission form are due to Mrs. Hege in Room 508 by 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23. If you did not receive your permission form, please see Mr. McAbee in Room 629.
  • A Fundraiser for Mr. Brown will take place during the month of February. All teachers have a letter to read to their classes and an envelope to collect funds. The funds will be collected at the end of February by the Key Club. The teacher with the highest amount in their envelope will receive donuts for each of their classes. Please support Mr. Brown. No Raider Rides Alone! Please feel free to see Mr. Norwood with any questions.
  • WOMEN IN STEM – The February Lunch and Learn by the Career Development office will highlight women who work in a variety of STEM related careers. This event will be held on February 25th during 3rd period in the Media Center. An RSVP is required to .
  • FBLA - Please see Mr. Norwood in Room #404 for information on joining the FBLA “Future Business Leaders of America.” The Student/Faculty Basketball game will take place on Friday, April 22, after school. All interested staff members are welcome to participate. All interested students should see Mr. Norwood for parental permission forms.
  • SEM – Raider Superstars - Click on the link on our school website for Sports & Entertainment Marketing Class sponsored videos and bios of Raider Sports Superstars. Contact Mr. Norwood for more information or with suggestions of Raider Sports Superstars.

  • Guitar Fun - Friday at 3:45 in Mr. Norwood’s Room #404. Beginners welcome. Play, practice, learn.
  • Support Your Troops – Please stop by Mr. Norwood’s Room #404 to send a card to our military troops. Send a thank you card to a service man or woman. The cards will be provided.

  • On Saturday, February 20, 2016, Winston-Salem State University will be hosting FAFSA Day from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Experts will be on hand to assist families complete the FAFSA.   • Interested in studying Law? This FREE conference is designed to reach minority high school students who are considering attending law school. Attendees will hear from law school deans, participate in a mock law school class, discover what admissions offices are looking for in potential students, speak with current law school students and practicing attorneys, and discuss careers available with a law degree.   • The Winston-Salem Chapter of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association awards scholarships each year to deserving students. Applications are due by February 26. Eligible students: Resident of Forsyth County, Senior who has received an acceptance letter for NCCU & anticipating to enroll, minimum 2.7 GPA.   • Winston-Salem State University Alumni – Kuandelea Chapter is offering two $1,000.00 scholarships to deserving students that plan to attend Winston-Salem State University in the fall. Applications are due by April 15, 2016. Eligible students: Seniors who have received an acceptance letter from WSSU, minimum 3.25 GPA, minimum 950 SAT/19 ACT score, resident of Forsyth County.   • LENS@Wake Forest is a three week summer program that is designed to equip current high school students with an academic foundation necessary to become global citizens and provides an interdisciplinary and experiential learning environment characteristic of the liberal arts education – without the pressure of grades or credit. Rising high school juniors and seniors spend three weeks living on campus at Wake Forest University discovering how to change the way they learn, the way they think, and the way they lead. To apply, students must provide a completed LENS admission application, an official transcript, and two brief essays. Applications are reviewed and admission decisions are made on a rolling basis until the program is full. Students may access the application and read more at lens.wfu.edu.
  • Want to start earning college credit? Current 10th and 11th graders can earn credit from Duke University during their summer program for HS students. Meet students from all over the world while living on campus and get an idea of the college experience. Check out more at:
