Scholarship Program Overview

Name of Award:R. “Dave” Billings Scholarship

Purpose of Award:This Scholarship named for a former Long

BranchHigh School teacher and Keansburg

High School vice-principal is intended to

assist selected students to finance their

higher education.

Amount of Awards:A yearly award in the amount of $1,000 per year (up

to four (4) years totaling $4,000) will be presented

to a graduating senior from Long Branch High

School and/or KeansburgHigh School who has

been accepted to aninstitution for higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:Eligible candidates are high school

seniors who:

*Attend Long Branch or Keansburg

High School

*Are in good academic and disciplinary

standing during their four years of high

school

*Will pursue a post-secondary or vocational educationin a technical or design field (including, but notlimited to photography, fashion or interiordesign, web design, fine or applied arts, computer graphics) or in education.

Application Process:Applicants for the R. “Dave” Billings

Scholarship can obtain a Scholarship

Application Package from their high

school guidance department.

To apply for this scholarship, candidates must meet all the eligibility requirements and submit a completed Scholarship Application including the following:

  • Signed and dated Scholarship Application Request
  • Completed Applicant’s Profile
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation: one (1) from the student’s guidance counselor and one (1) from an outside community member/employer.
  • High School transcripts with current grade point average.

Application:All applications must be postmarked by

May 1, 2015. No exceptions will be made for late

or incomplete applications.

Selection Process: The Board of Directors of the R. “Dave”

Billings Scholarship Committee will review

the applications and assess each candidate

according to the established selection criteria.

Notification and

Presentation of

Awards:Recipients of the scholarship will be notified

through the Guidance Department of their

High School. After the recipients’ post-

secondaryfall semester, he/she must contact

the Scholarship Committee and provide proof

that they have successfullycompleted the fall semester with at least nine (9) credits. (Please contact the Scholarship Committee if there are extenuating circumstances). They also will needto provide proof of registration for the spring semester. At that time, the recipients will be awarded the $1,000 for that year.

I wish to apply for the R. David Billings Scholarship for tuition and related expenses toward a post-secondary education. I understand that eligible candidates are those who meet the following requirements:

  • A senior student from Keansburg High School or Long Branch High School
  • Will obtain a high school diploma in June 2015
  • Have been accepted for the current academic year by an accredited post-secondary educational institution
  • Have a good academic and disciplinary record throughout his/her four (4) years of high school
  • Will pursue post-secondary instruction in the technical or design field (including, but not limited to, photography, fashion or interior design, web design, fine or applied arts, computer graphics).

I understand that my application must be mailed to the R. David Billings Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 7355, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702 by May 1 of the current school year and that I will be notified if I am a recipient of a scholarship in late May or early June.

I have enclosed my completed Applicant’s profile, school transcripts and two (2) letters of recommendations from my guidance counselor and a community member.
