GIFT CARDS FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES (Nov. 23, 24 & 26)
I will sell cards made from photos taken during our travel in pre-war Syria (2010). $4 each or 3 for $10.
At choir evenings, Nov. 23-24-26.
They can be used as birthday cards, to be framed, or when making a donation to a refugee fund in someone's name. All proceeds go to support refugees in camps on Lesbos island, Greece, where my sister lives with her family. Donations for this cause are gratefully accepted. I have raised almost $2000 since June, thanks to generous donors and friends. The camp manager was so appreciative when she was given the first $1000 in July, as they had not received such a large amount in a long time. It helps provide food, clothes, medicine, etc.

Would you like to host a sectional?

***** Extra Practice!***** Extra Sociability!***** Potluck?*****

At least two home sectionals per section between the beginning of the holiday break (Dec 15) and our concerts (Jan 29 & 30) would be great!

For detailed information about sectionals, and about hosting them, please click here.

Shivon or Denis will participate when they can.

The basics for hosting are a suitable space and some way to give the starting note if neither Shivon nor Denis can be there. To provide the notes you will need a keyboard, guitar, etc…or…you can play the parts files from our site on your computer…or…you can use your section’s choir practice CD.

Just pick a date and time that works for you, send a sectional invitation that includes all the pertinent information and I will:

  1. add your sectional to the “Home Sectional Invitations” list in the appropriate issues of the newsletter
  2. add it to our web site’s Choir Life Calendar
  3. email a special advance announcement to everyone in your section (just your night or all nights)
  4. email you a call list of names and phone numbers for members of your section who are not on email

If you want to host a home sectional please call me (Bill) at 920-4160 or email me at

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DAY SWAT

Open to all current and former GHC, HNC and Soundings singers

Many of you have participated in the amazing Christmas Day SWAT that is put on annually by the Christmas Spirit Society. It is a terrific way to give back to the community and to provide some joyful music for those less fortunate who gather for the meals and the cameraderie.

Full details to come but here are the basics…

Schedule: We sing for two separate sittings. Probably 11:15 to 1:00 and 2:30 to 4:30 (to be confirmed)

  • Note that we will not be singing all the time - there will be breaks
  • (e.g. when Santa arrives for however long he is there)
  • You are welcome to sing at either or both
  • We should arrive 30 minutes before each set so that we can warm up and go over songs etc.

Location: (usually) Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 1800 Quadra St. (to be confirmed)

If you wish to participate in this SWAT email me at , letting me know:

(1)what section you are in, and

(2)which sitting, or both, you will be available for.

(3)your email addresses (or phone numbers for those not on email) so that I can update you as needed

~ Denis

WORD OF MOUTH / RECOMMENDATIONS

For supporting and celebrating 'others' whose businesses / actions / way of being / kind words - whatever! - have helped you, us and/or our world grow, come alive and/or prosper.

FAIR VOTE CANADA PETITION

Fair Vote Canada has a petition to ensure that the new Federal government keeps its promise that this was the last first-past-the-post election that gives such distorted results. Trudeau got 39.5% of the vote, but 54.4% of the seats. It is less dangerous than when Harper had control, but it still does not accurately reflect the people of Canada. I will bring the petition to GHC Thursday practices, but if you would like to help out with this, please email me at .

ISLAND VIEW BEACHPLANNING PROCESS

This process is nearing a conclusion. It is shaping up as a real battle between those who want to maintain the park as a local recreational place to walk dogs and camp and those of us who would like to see the natural environment values recognized, protected and rehabilitated.
A day long "community dialogue" discussion will be held Saturday Nov 21 hosted by the CRD 9:30am-3:30pm at the Greek Community Centre, 4648 Elk Lake Dr.
I would urge you to try and make time to participate. For details click here.

“10 FOR 10”.....A MINI HOUSE CONCERT JUST FOR YOU!

On Monday Nov. 16 our choir practice was graced with a visit from Pam and Liz who perform as “Road Trip Boogie.” They are a duo from Nova Scotia whose unique performance concept I recommend to you for gatherings of family and/or friends. In their words it’s a…

… mini house concert for those of you for whom the thought of organizing a full house concert is too daunting.

You invite 10 of your friends to an informal potluck, any evening of the week and everyone shares a meal. Pam and Liz share their road stories and after dinner they share 10 songs. The cost is just 10 dollars per person. 10 for 10!
