QUEST Cub Scout Day Camp

2015

“Rumble in the Jungle”

Join us for a week of jungle fun!

MESSAGE:

Dear Parents,

Welcome to QUEST Day Camp at Camp Boyhaven! Day Camp is the one of the first steps in the Scouting Outdoor Program. It’s a week of fun, advancement, and adventure at a camp or park close to home. Each day’s program is filled with a variety of exciting activities including water sports, archery, nature, crafts, games, and sports all designed to enhance the boy’s experience.

Why QUEST Day Camp??

A boy joins Scouting because somewhere he saw or heard that Scouting provides excitement and adventure in the great outdoors. He wants to share that excitement with the members of his den but he might not be ready for a full-fledged overnight camping experience. That’s where QUEST camp comes in…

Camp Boyhaven’s QUEST Day Camp is unique to any other Day Camp experience because you receive the benefit of a fully trained, responsible and professional staff led by an administrative team that is focused on one goal: Providing your son with a SAFE, ORGANIZED, and TOP-NOTCH experience that he will remember for many years to come!

This guide for parents has been provided to help you learn more about the camp experience, plan accordingly, and gain some knowledge of Camp Boyhaven itself. We all have our own expectations for what a summer camp experience should be, but the camp staff is are prepared to make each camper’s experience one to remember! We have done a great job molding both advancements and “just for fun” activities into the entire camp experience.

Looking forward to seeing you this summer!!

STEM QUEST!!

A Day Camp experience dedicated specifically to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math!

...based on the BSA's National NOVA Program.

What is it?

STEM QUEST is a brand new day camp experience at Camp Boyhaven this summer where nearly all program areas will be working to help campers earn achievements toward the four NOVA awards, which focus specifically in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

Why STEM QUEST?

Our day camp experience will combine opportunities to learn, make new friendships, and create experiences that will last a lifetime. We plan to bring in certified and trained experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math to create a unique experience that scouts won't find anywhere else. In addition, campers will still have plenty of time to simply enjoy the experience of attending summer camp and the traditional activities that come with Quest camp.

What awards will my son focus on?

There are four NOVA awards that campers will work toward: "Science Everywhere", "Tech Talk", "Swing!", and "1-2-3 GO!". If a cub scout completes 2 of the four NOVA awards, he will be able to strive for the SUPERNOVA award, which acknowledges superior achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. For more specific information on BSA's National NOVA Program, please go to the following link:

  • On the drop off times, please allow 10 minutes either way of time set due to traffic. Please be there 15min prior to the drop off time, to insure there is a parent there.

QUEST DAY CAMP

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The QUEST Day Camp program is designed to teach skills and develop attitudes that make our campers more self-reliant and appreciative of nature. Your son will have fun with a purpose. We strive to build character while providing a memorable experience in the life of a young scout. Our QUEST Day Camp program is designed to reflect the purposes and objectives of the Cub Scout Program.

-To influence the boy's character development and spiritual growth

-To develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship

-To encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body

-To improve understanding within the family

-To strengthen a boy's ability to get along with others

-To foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interest and skills

-To provide fun and exciting new things to do

-To show a boy how to be helpful and do his best

-To prepare him to be a Boy Scout

Our programstresses Fun, Adventure, and Exploring, all within the outdoor environment. Through these avenues advancement occurs. Advancement for the sake of advancement is not the objective of a Scouting camp program. Intangible goals are stressed, such as Sportsmanship, Responsibility, Helpfulness, Cooperation, Citizenship, Problem Solving, and Understanding of oneself and others.
Camp Rules

The Big Three–

  1. Always have a Buddy. Everyone needs a buddy – Cub Scouts, youth staff, everyone who is under 18 must have a buddy by their side at all time.
  1. Stay on the trails. Wildlife is all around us. We’re only here for a week, but they live here. Let’s leave their homes undisturbed as much as we can.
  1. If you find yourself lost, stand still and call for help. Hug A Tree. Don’t keep wandering. We’ll know in a few minutes that you are lost, and we will be looking for you. Don’t make it hard to find you!

4. QUEST CAMPis a smoke-free zone. If you come to visit your son during camp, we have a designated smoking “hut” attached to the NOVA Center/Camp Office. This is the only space where smoking is allowed.

5. No profanity is allowed in Camp. This includes shirts with rude or suggestive designs.

6. The “camp uniform” is the current camp T-shirt. If you are only here for the day or if you leave your shirt at home, you will need to wear a wristband.

7. Report ALL injuries to the Health Office

8. All areas must be kept clean and in good condition- Leave no Trace

9. Cars are not permitted to travel while busses are unloading or loading

10. No radio headphones, toys, water guns, etc.
