Queen’s Park Heywood 3-2-1 Routes

Route 1 – 0.33 miles – 6-8 min walk, 3-5 min run

  • Start at Park Notice Board at main entrance to the park
  • Follow the path straight towards the fountain
  • Continue straight across past the fountain and start to head down the hill
  • Take the 2nd path leading on the right
  • Follow this path until you come to another junction
  • At this junction veer right
  • Follow this path up the hill heading towards the wooden boat play area
  • At the crossroads next to the Queens Park Play Area sign turn right towards the fountain
  • Turn left back on to the main path and head back to the starting point

Route 2 – 0.48 miles – 10-12 min walk, 8-10 min run

  • Start at the Park Notice Board at main entrance to the park
  • Follow the path towards the fountain
  • At the fountain take the left hand path, past the outdoor theatre area
  • Follow this path down the hill and at the junction turn right
  • Take the next path on the left
  • At the next split of paths stay left towards the lake bank
  • Take the 2nd right just above the pond and head back up the hill. (don’t take the right hand lower path)
  • Continue following this path up the hill, heading towards the wooden boat play area
  • Turn right at the cross junction
  • Take the next left and follow the path between the playground and cafe
  • Arrive back at the starting point

Route 3 – 0.62 mile – 16-18 min walk, 14-16 min run

  • Start at the Park Notice Board at the main entrance of the park
  • Take the path opposite the sign that runs down the side of the Park Wardens cottage towards the Bowling Green
  • Follow this path round the edge of the park past the bowling green and the tennis courts
  • At the path split keep left and head down the hill towards the lake
  • As you get towards the lake bank, take the gravel left hand path down to the lake bank and walk all the way round the lake clockwise
  • Take the path between the 2 ponds to start to head back up the hill
  • At the next junction turn leftand take the path between the orange bin and the orienteering post marked D (red) and □ (white) and follow the path round the edge of the park
  • Continue straight on this path (up the steep hill) until you reach the top and then turn left towards the park gates
  • At the park gates turn right towards the fountain
  • Take the first Left
  • Follow this path round past the play area back to the starting point

Once you’ve tried these routes, why not try a 3-2-1 challenge such as:

  • Going round them the opposite way round
  • Adding Routes together to make longer distances
  • Seeing if you can complete the Route in a new Personal Best time!
  • Seeing if you can complete more laps of the Route for further distance
  • Try adding in some more runs up the lovely hills!! Work those Glutes!!!

The possibilities are endless!!! Then as the other routes launch in Rochdale, Littleborough and Middleton you’ll have even more challenges to play with! Get your running shoes on!!
