News about local art shows, classes and art trips, including information on art studies as they become available. Brochures and news of regional, state and national competitions and classes can be found at the CarpenterHouseMuseum. From time to time we include additional information about our community partners who support High Country Artists (HCA) and arts in UpperKittitasCounty.

You can find information on different levels of membership in HCA at the museum. HCA is a non-profit cooperative organization and all donated funds keep the Museum operating and the art community progressing.

At the Carpenter House

February Featured Artist: Kathy Weber has a realistic style of painting using both oils and pastels. She uses rich and vibrant color to capture the light and movement of each subject.

March will feature The “Best of Gallery” Members Show:

April Featured Artist: Karen Watland explores all corners of her creativity in a wide range of mediums. Her favorites are oils and acrylic, which she continuously fine-tunes.

Featured Writer: Lyn Derrick is an award-winning writer published in newspapers, magazines and special interest publications. She facilitates the writersgroup, Write Spirit, at the Carpenter House on the last Friday of the month, 10:30 am.

  • Special: Ginger Stogdell will coach ongoing art classes Friday afternoons. All mediums. Members $10.00 an afternoon and Non Members $12.00 an afternoon. For student Art Exhibit during the month of May, Contact Ginger at
  • Roslyn Sunday Market: June through September 10th, 2:00 PM, Booth display
  • Roslyn Art Walk: Last Friday, showcase art in business while finger food and spirits are served. *
  • Additional Monthly Activities: Art Classes & Workshops, Traveling Art, Field Trips, Art Trekking for Plein air painting. *
  • Weekly Paint Session: May through October, Monday evenings 5 to 8 PM.

High Country Artists Kathy Leonard Weber, Betty Holmes and Karen Watland have set up a western theme booth at the “Spirit of the West Cowboy Gathering” in Ellensburg, from Feb. 12 – 14, KittitasCounty Fair Grounds.

High Country Artists Betty Holmes, Sharon J. Robertson, Karen Watland, Virginia Depicolzuane and Kathy Leonard Weber will be representing “Women Artist: 1910-2010 Where We Are Now” at Gallery One, Ellensburg from Jan. 18 – Feb. 27. Opening Reception: Feb. 5, 5-7p.m.

The beautiful Don & Lori Watts’ Christmas tree, which began its life as a part of last year’s Tinsel and Glitz Life Support Auction was donated by the Watts to be used as a fundraiser to benefit Carpenter House restoration efforts. The tree is on display in the museum foyer throughout 2010, with the winner to be announced prior to Christmas. Tickets are $5.00 each. The tree is valued at $800.00 or more. Many thanks to the Watts for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

2010 HCA Brochures are available for guests and to promote HCA. Stop by the gallery for a visit, see the new artist display and pick up a new brochure.

January 13, 20 and 21 Sharon Robertson represented HCA at Vision Cle Elum and the Event Swap Meet for the Upper Kittitas County Clubs. Sharon was made Team Leader for the “Cultural Events” team for Vision Cle Elum. This includes arts, museums, theater and music. If you are interested in either of these events, contact Sharon at 206-714-6091 (C).

Northern Kittitas County Historical Society (NKCHS)will have their general meeting at the CarpenterHouseMuseum, Saturday, March 13, 2:00 pm. Officer and board elections.

  • ‘Paint Out in KittitasCounty’ for any artist (novice to experienced) who would like to paint independently, from the peaks of the Cascades to the grand Columbia. July 10 - 16.
  • ‘Week of Workshops’ features nationally known art and photography instructors presenting demos and workshops. On Friday evening, July 16, participants and the community are invited to Wine and Music with the Stars Art Show and Reception on theCarpenter House Museum & Gallery grounds. Artwork from the Paint Out and Week of Workshops will be on display. July 12 - 16

Norman Rockwell; ()

Many of Rockwell’s subjects were neighbors and friends in Stockbridge, Mass. A new show that runs through May 31, presents photos Rockwell staged to do his famous drawings.
