Quarter 2 Independent Reading Project

Project DUE DATE: ______

Part 1: Character Instagram

Directions: Using the handout provided to you (or a replication), create an imaginary Instagram profile for the main character in your independent reading novel. Your character’s Instagram profile must contain all of the following:

  • An original, unique username that relates to your character
  • A “bio” (biography) section in which you give a little bit of background about your character (2-3 sentences that describe the character’s personality and interests).
  • A profile picture of the character
  • The character’sname
  • At least 6 photos that your character would post on his/her Instagram. These photos should relate to the character and events in the novel. In other words, the pictures should relate to the various plot stages in the novel (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution).
  • Below each photo must be a caption relating to the photo – this is where you can be creative with #hashtags and making your character “come to life” through their Instagram profile. The more creative you are, the more points you’ll earn!

Part 2: Plot Diagram

Directions: Create a plot diagram for your novel and label each stage. Your plot diagram must include all of the following:

  • Title and Author: this should stand out – I shouldn’t have to search for it!
  • 3 Images/Illustrations: these should clearly relate to the plot of the novel or contain a caption to explain the connection.
  • Exposition: Introduction to the main characters (with a brief description of each), background information, the primary conflict, and the setting.
  • Rising Action: 2-3 events in the novel where the primary conflict becomes more complicated; suspense begins to build.
  • Climax: Where the primary conflict is faced head on and outcome of the story can go one way or another; the turning point. The conflict begins to be resolved and continues to wind down through the falling action.
  • Falling Action: 2-3 events in the novel that occur after the climax; suspense begins to ease as the novel’s primary conflict becomes even more simplified.
  • Resolution: How the novel ends – all conflicts are resolved and suspense is completely eased.
