TITLE:ESL TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree or higher; ESL certification
Knowledge of methods and content in English as a Second Language instruction experience preferred
Previous experience teaching ESL preferred.
REPORTS TO:Principal
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of second language acquisition and acculturation processes, as well as methodological approaches and techniques for teaching English as a second language. Additionally, the candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of best practices regarding English language reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar instruction for the LEP (Limited English Proficient) student and will use effective assessment practices to guide instruction. S/he will be a strong communicator and team player that will work with parents and the professional staff, serving as a liaison between the home and school. Likewise, s/he will coordinate with classroom teachers to support LEP students across the curriculum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess students’ current levels of English proficiency.
- Establish learning goals for students and monitor progress toward these goals on an ongoing basis.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction for students to support the acceleration of English language learning.
- Provide support to students in the academic content areas.
- To prepare lesson plans and instruct accordance to North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
- Serve as the second language specialist to the faculty.
- Serve as a liaison between the student, family, and school to foster a positive relationship.
- Participate in team meetings and parent-teacher conferences as needed.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress through monthly progress reports, as well as through phone calls and emails as needed.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- To be familiar with district and school policies and procedures.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten months
Salary and work year to be established by the

TEACHER ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
To assist the teacher and cooperate in a supportive role carrying out developmentally appropriate activities. To promote the health, nutrition, and education of the children and to attend to their safety and welfare.
Job Responsibilities: Performance Indicators
Classroom Time (80%)
- Assist in setting up environment (indoor/outdoor) for the activities of the day.
- Use developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate activities with group and individuals.
- Observe and record behaviors of children to assist the teacher in the identification of each child’s strengths and areas to grow.
- Utilize lesson plans which reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Head Start children.
- Follow a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, socialization, and choice-making: ask open-ended questions, and respectfully listen to answers.
- Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
- Respond to crisis or emergencies that may occur. Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens and access emergency services as needed.
Written Documentation (7%)
- At the direction of the teacher, maintain accurate written records, including; assessments, IEP documentation, screening instructions, anecdotal observations, and other required forms.
Home Visits/Meetings (10%)
- Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components.
- Assist the teacher in making home visits for the purpose of assessment and support, and to share information on parenting, educational strategies, and classroom progress.
- Attend parent committee meetings.
Miscellaneous (3%)
- Assure/assist in general maintenance and security of facility.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities.
- Other duties as assigned which may include bus driver or monitoring, if needed.
Communications
- Frequent in-person contact with children, parents and staff for the purpose of education and exchange of information
- At direction of teacher, write memos to staff and parents.
- Occasional meetings with team members to assist on planning and delivery of services.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required
- Demonstrated classroom ability
- Excellent communication skills, especially listening skills
- Knowledge of typical behavior/expectations of four year old children typically gained through a minimum of one year of relevant experience
- Must have a valid North Carolina CDL to drive a bus
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid certified
- TB screening
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA preferred. Must work toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education

Migrant Education Interviewer/Recruiter
A. Responsibilities
1. Obtain and interpret information provided by parents, guardians, and others;
2. Record accurately and clearly information that establishes a child as a migrant
student under the statutory definition in Section 1309(2) and the regulartory
definitions in 34 CFR 200.40.
B. Knowledgeable in the following areas:
1.Basic MEP eligibility requirements;
2. Local agricultural and processiong sites;
3.Language spoken by migratory workers;
4.Cycles of seasonal employment and temporary employment;
5. Local growers companies;
6. Local roads and locations of places where migrants typically reside;
7. MEP services offered by the local operating agency;
8. The workings of the local system; and
9.Other agencies that can provide services to migratory workers and their families,
such as Migrant Health, Migrant Labor, WIC, and Migrant Headstart.
C. Duties
1. To identify and recruit migrant students using the following criteria:
A. Identification – securing necessary information about each child, recording
the basis of the child’s eligibility on a COE, and entering child in the state
database.
B. Recruitment – determining the presence and location of migratory children;
A child may qualify, regardless of language, ethnicity or
national origin, to be counted as a migratory child if he
or she moves to another district for a qualifying agricultural
or fishing employment reason in the preceding 36 months.
This work must be directly related to the planting, cultivating,
harvesting, or processing of crops. Additionally, work with
livestock raised for processing or slaughter may be qualifying
activities. An eligible child may be selected for program
services according to a local school district’s assessment of the
child’s needs.
2.To complete all documentation accurately, clearly, and timely:
Certificates of Eligibility (COE) and other documentation deemed necessary.
3.To enter and review all required documentation into the state database.
The MIS2000 database is to be maintained and updated regularly.
4.To attend conferences at the state and national levels:

5. To conduct quarterly contacts with community businesses and health
and human service agencies to identify/recruit new migrant students/families.
6.To review evaluation reports, local plans, and other support documentation in
preparation for monitoing from the Department of Public Instruction.
7. To generate monitoring reports and resolve any pending issues regarding
eligibility of migrant students.
8. To assist with the interviews, re-interviews, or contact parents when necessary
9.To translate documents and interpret for MEP families when needed.
10. To conduct on-site visits to local farms during peak agricultural seasons to
identify and recruit new migrant out of school youth.
