Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Michigan Announces Winners for30th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards

Annual Craft Professional of the Year and Safety Award of Excellence Winners Revealed

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., September14, 2016–Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter (ABC/WMC) today announcedthe winners of the 30th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards, held last night at New Vintage Place. The annual event highlights West Michigan’s most innovative and high-quality construction projects, safety efforts and craft professionals.

The Excellence in Construction Awards are highly sought after year-over-year and highlight both individuals and companies in various categories from safety to general construction.

The Safety Award of Excellence recognizes companies that exhibit a continued commitment to jobsite safety and incorporate these values throughout their corporate culture. Sixteen member companies chased the 2016 award, from which three finalists were selected in two categories – General Contractor/Construction Manager and Trade Contractor.

The winner for Safety Award of Excellence General Contractor/Construction Manager was Elzinga and Volkers Construction Professionals.

The Safety Award of Excellence Trade Contractor was presented toFeyen Zylstra.

ABC/WMC also announced the winner for - the Craft Professional of the Year (CPOY), an award given to an individual who sets a high standard for professionals in their craft by exhibiting outstanding skills and leadership. The recipient of this chapter award demonstrates passion for the trade, satisfaction of a job well done and pride in doing meaningful, hands-on work.

The 2016 CPOY is Terry Buschert foreman, safety advisor and NCCER apprentice instructor for Architectural Metals, Inc.
