PWJPS Meeting Minutes – Mar.23, 2017 – 4:00 PM
Attendees: Anne Johnston, Jen Kapsas, Jackie Burrell, Crystal Mallory, Alen, Toni Atell, Hau Lee
Principal and Staff Update:
1. Survey
a) Plan to send out parent survey to gauge parent needs and best communication channels, as
well as safety concerns and language preferences
2. Nutrition Program
a) Applied for grant for next school year, should hear back in June
b) Nutrition Program Coordinator position – currently Ms. Kitty is volunteering in this role, need to prepare job position and fill role, issue with April newsletter
3. School Improvement Plan (focus on Achievement, Equity & Well-Being)
a) Achievement: Every class to pick topic related to Canada's 150th birthday within the
curriculum, with projects celebrated and showcased in May
b) Equity: Homework Club – grade 10 student volunteers from Albert Campbell to start
helping Percy students with their homework in an after school program(once a week)
c) Wellbeing: “Buddy Bench” intiative started in the schoolyard – if a student needs a buddy,
can sit on the buddy bench – there will be “Playground Activity Leaders” (“PALS”) to
engage students in positive play, as well as a design contest for the bench, which will be
painted by students to make it fun and appealing
4. Upcoming Events, Teams and Clubs
a) Ukelele, Guitar and Folkdance, Choir, Forest of Reading underway
b) Student Leadership Team meetings & activities continue
c) Finished volleyball and basketball tournaments
d) Starting Junior house league hockey
e) April 11 “Spirit Day”, theme will be Blue Jays
f) April 27th Spring Concert, cookies will be sold at the concert with proceeds to support
Nutrition Program
Fundraising
1. Dance-a-thon planned for May 5th 2017
a) Activities and dates discussed:
March 29th - Music lists ready (Toni/Alen to send to Jen)
March 31st - Draft of Dance-a-thon envelopes sent out for review (Hau)
Monday, April 10th - Dance-a-thon envelopes to be printed (Hau)
April 11-April 13th - Dance-a-thon envelopes to be sent home before Easter long weekend)
Monday, April 24th - Both donation and order form envelopes due back
April 18th~April 28th - Dance-a-thon donations counted daily afterschool (Hau)
Thursday, April 17th - Place cookie order for following Tuesday May 2nd delivery (Hau)
Prior to Event - Rent lights from Long & McQuade (Jackie)
Prior to Event - Purchase Juice Boxes, Glow Toys and Canada-Themed Toys (Hau, Toni)
Prior to Event - Set class schedule for the event (Jen)
Friday, May 5th - Dance-a-thon!
And: Student Leadership Team to help with promotion, performance on stage, music list
