PWCS License Renewal -Advisor/Principal Responsibility

You areencouraged to become familiar with the following:
- Read the Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual and become familiar with licensure guidelines and options for renewal.
- Read PWCS Regulation for Certificated Employees/Licensing – Regulation 513.01-1
License Renewal Requirements must be completed between January 1 and April 1 of the year the license expires.
- Educate licensed staff on licensure requirements and encourage license holders to use the Certification website
for the most updated license renewal instructions and forms:
- Review professional growth plans and progress towards license renewal on a yearly basis for each license holder.
- Support high quality professional development as set forth by the Virginia Department of Education.
- It is recommended that licensure be included in the Professional Performance Process (PPP).
- Maintain a valid license and meet all licensure requirements as set forth by the VDOE and PWCS.
- Professional development and personal growth in education.
- Verify license holders have read and understand the Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual.
- Non-compliance of licensure requirements may result in a breach of contract and termination.
- Establish guidelines for the review, approval and signature process of license renewal packets for licensed staff.
- Advisor/principalis responsible for verifying all supporting documentation; such as professional leave slips, attendance list, certificates, etc.
- Advisor/principal must verify completion of FirstAid/CPR/AED training with hands on practice for CPR. (Certificate of completion required.)
- Advisor/principal must verify completion of Virginia history or state and local government module (Certificate of completion required.)
- Advisor/principal must verify completion of updated Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition Training. (Current Certificate of completion required.)
- Advisor/principal must verify completion of Dyslexia Awareness Training. (Certificate of completion required)
- Advisor/principal must verify completion of School Counseling Training if license reflects a school counselor endorsement regardless of whether the license holder is serving as a school counselor
- Advisor/principal must verify, initial and date each activity completed.
- An activity should not be a routine employment responsibility.
- Advisor/principalis responsible for signing and dating the up-to-date Application for License Renewal Form.
- Advisor/principal must verify successful completion of 180 total points for each 5-year license holder and up to 360 points for each 10-year license holder for each renewal cycle.
- Required Training Certificates, transcripts and eSolutions Electronic Registrar transcript should be included in the licensure packet sent to the PWCS Office of Certification, other supporting documentation for license renewal is maintained by the school/license holder.
- All activities must meet the Domains of Professional Competency in education as outlined in the VDOE Renewal Manual:
- 1. College Credit - 30 points per semester credit(optional -no longer required for license holders not holding a Master’s)
- 2. Professional Conference – Participation – 5 points per day/Presentation – 15 points per topic presentation – Max. 45 pts.
- 3. Curriculum Development – One point per clock hour – Max. 90 pts.
- 4. Publication of Article – 45 points per narrative, article or report – Max. 90 pts.
- 5. Publication of Book - 90 points per book- Max. 90 pts
- 6. Mentorship/Supervision–Include name of person and dates - One point per clock hour – Max. 90 pts.
- 7. Educational Project- One point per clock hour – Max. 90 pts.
- 8. Professional Development Activity- One point per clock hour – Minimum of 5 hours per activity.
Activities offered as a series or continued on-going training can be grouped together to reach the five hour minimum. Example: Completion of three, two (2) hour ESOL Training sessions should be listed on one line as ESOL Training 2014/2015, six (6) points.
