Call for Papers
The 49th Annual Meeting of the Southern Rural Sociological Association (SRSA) will be held concurrently with the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists (SAAS),
February 2-6, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida.
The theme of the SRSA meeting is
“Pursuing the New Sustainable South:
Rural Sociology in a Changing Era”
Rural Sociologists have many things to contend with as we work to develop behavior changes that address more inclusive behaviors, increased diversity, a changing political environment, improved sustainability of farms and families, rural development issues, rural living, and the resiliency of the region. The Southern Region has undergone many recent environmental disasters that have covered much of the region recently including devastating hurricanes, drought, and fires. Additionally, the South and nation are undergoing often violent changes as social relationships are stressed. Rural Sociologists have critical roles to play if the lands, families, and communities are to become more sustainable and resilient. The many topics that fall under this heading should lead to the sharing of ideas that are pertinent across the Southern Region and nation.
Persons wishing to participate in the 2018 meeting are invited to submit a title, list of authors and affiliations, and an abstract of 150 words as an email attachment to the Program Chair by Friday, November 3, 2017. Paper, poster, and panel submissions are welcome.
