JOB TITLE: Psychology Resident

As approved by the Higher Learning Commission, Purdue University Northwest (PNW) was established through the unification of Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central.

The Psychology Resident position is a dual appointment, with time divided in the Counseling Center (50%) and in Disability Access Center (50%). The Psychology Resident will receive individual and group supervision with licensed psychologists. The position will provide direct service to students as well as provide liaison services to faculty and staff pertaining to disability and accessibility to educational programs and academic success. The Psychology Resident will utilize skills and education from the areas of understanding individual differences, multicultural influences and disability to support and advocate for students for access and to achieve success in their academic pursuit of education. The Psychology Resident will also interpret psychological reports and make determinations for accommodations. The Psychology Resident will also provide clinical services to students via educational coaching, and counseling to assist students in addressing psychological and social challenges. Intervention activities will include providing direct therapeutic services to individuals and groups at the Counseling Center, as well as some opportunities to provide academic coaching at the Disability Access Center. Assessment activities will include comprehensive psychological evaluations, social history/family assessment. Case management opportunities will involve working with students with disabilities to ensure they are receiving appropriate accommodations. Consultation activities will include crisis consultation and accommodation concerns.

Essential Duties:
Direct Services Duties

·  Provide specialized clinical training (assessment, consultation) and (treatment modes) in developmental disabilities (brief, time-limited individual, couples, and group therapy) (process and psycho-education) to university students presenting with a broad range of developmental issues and clinical symptoms.

·  Implements and supports students legally mandated accommodations, and intervention techniques required for individual students with disabilities.

·  Creates and delivers supportive programming for students with disabilities as needed.

·  Provide intake evaluations and crisis interventions within the scope of practice delineated by the primary clinical supervisor and training coordinator.

Indirect Services Duties and Supervision

·  Interprets documentation of students with psychological and other disabilities provided by competent authorities including psychiatrist, psychologist, or other appropriate professionals to determine eligibility for disability services.

·  Provide consultation and outreach/educational programming to the university community within the range of activity delineated by the primary supervisor, training coordinator, and outreach coordinator.

·  Monitors academic progress and provides academic support, disability-management counseling, disability advocacy and other supplemental support services to ensure student retention and graduation.

·  Participate in activities to build campus relations.

·  Maintain timely electronic clinical records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.

·  Participate in clinical staff meetings and committee work as needed.

·  Participate in weekly supervision in accordance with licensure laws and regulations of Indiana Psychology Board and Indiana IPLA

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology from an APA accredited program. Completion of all formal requirements for Ph.D. or Psy.D degree from an APA-accredited program in clinical, counseling, school-clinical, or school psychology. Acceptance of dissertation proposal by dissertation committee: Completed dissertation and degree, preferred. Full completion of doctoral degree preferred by the beginning of the psychology residency. Successful completion of one year pre-doctoral internship in professional psychology. Previous experience with DSM 5 diagnoses and interpretation of psychological documentation. Experience working with adolescents and adults with psychological, physical and learning disabilities: preferably in a university setting. Must possess excellent skills in intervention, assessment, case management and advocacy, consultation and professional development.
