Young Adult Dog Wellness Plan
Age 1 to 4 years old
“All your dog needs to grow up just right”
Your young dogs’ wellness plan covers all of the following
· vaccinations
· worming and flea control
· nutrition and growth
· annual health checks
· baseline blood screens
· dental care
· x-ray evaluation depending on the breed
Here at the Sommerville Vet Centre all our young dogs have a wellness plan which ensures they get the ongoing care the need.
1. Your young dog needs to be fully protected against the following diseases; Canine parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis. (Parainfluenza and Bordatella are assessed on risk).
2. All dogs need to be wormed every 3 months with a broad spectrum wormer
3. Flea control needs to be maintained year round.
4. Your young dog’s nutrition is important for continued strength and development of muscles, joints and connective tissues. He needs to have his weight and body score checked throughout his young life.
5. Now that your dog has his permanent teeth it is very important to keep them and the gums strong and healthy.
6. Annual health checks by a veterinarian.
7. All adolescent dogs need to have one baseline blood screen done.
8. Most large breeds of dogs need to have their hips evaluated for hip dysplasia and some breeds also need to have their elbows evaluated in a similar way.
You are in control
We will do our best to provide you, the owner, with enough information about the health needs of your pet to make informed choices. You remain in control while our dedicated staff of vets and nurses will take care of the rest.
Remember
Wellness is for life so when your dog turns 4 we will start him or her on our older adult health plan that covers their health needs to age 8.
