Pupils’ SATs results soar at primary school in Scunthorpe
Rapidly improving attainment in Key Stage 2 tests

Alongside their fellow Year 6 peers across the country, the children of Oasis Academy Parkwood, Scunthorpe took their end of Key Stage 2 SAT tests in May, marking the conclusion of their primary education before moving onto secondary school. The Department for Education (DfE) have published the first set of results, showing what the children have achieved in the three core subjects of reading, writing and maths.

At Oasis Academy Parkwood, Plymouth Road, Scunthorpe, results have dramatically improved in just one academic year. In 2016 thirty-seven percent of pupils achieved what the DfE defines as the ‘expected standard’ in all three of the core subjects. This year, seventy-six percent of pupils have reached the target, an increase of thirty-nine percentage points.

Results have improved in each individual subject; reading is up from 47 percent to 83 percent, writing is up from 58percent to 83, while writing remains a strength at the school rising from 77 percent to 88.

Commenting on the results, Oasis Academy Parkwood’s Principal, Tracey Norriss, says: ‘At Oasis Academy Parkwood, we are passionate about giving each pupil the chance to flourish and develop, which we achieve by providing them with excellent teaching and learning and opportunities to stretch themselves.’

‘These results show that our children have grasped these opportunities with both hands – they have made swift progress and through perseverance and hard work have made great achievements.’

‘Credit too, to our teachers who are so committed across each year group. Their personal interest in the progress of each child, challenging them each individually, is vital for such good progress. I am so grateful to them all.’

Oasis Community Learning Regional Director Philip Beaumontsays:‘Oasis Academy Parkwood has had a superb year - to improve the proportion of children achieving ‘expected standard’ in reading, writing and maths by 39 percentage points is superb, and these results are amongst the best in the whole Oasis family of academies.’

‘What makes Tracey and her team special is their dedication to each child; there is an attitude within the Academy that everyone has great potential within them, some just need additional help to realise it. All of us within Oasis are very proud of what they have accomplished.’
