PUPIL PREMIUM INFORMATION

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium was introduced by the Department for Education (DfE) in 2011, as additional funding for pupils who receive Free School Meals and who are Looked After Children. This is because the DfE have recognised that good education is the key to improving young people’s life chances. This is particularly true for children from low-income families, or who are Looked After Children, who are statistically less likely to leave schools with good GCSE results than other children. The funding helps diminish the difference between the educational progress, attainment and opportunities for pupils where there is a greater financial challenge in the home environment. The Pupil Premium, using additional resources from outside the School’s Budget, is intended to address the current inequalities by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

The DfE have stated that schools have the right to spend this funding as they see fit based upon their knowledge of pupil needs.

Schools, headteachers and teachers will decide how to use the Pupil Premium allocation, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils.”

In financial years to date as a school we have received 2011/12 £7,808, 2013/14, £21,866, 2015/16 £32,521, 2016/17 forecast £ 34,040.

The targeted and strategic use of pupil premium will support us in achieving our vision.

  • We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all of the pupils with quality class teaching
  • We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups
  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
  • We recognise some eligible pupils will be achieving within age expectations or will be high achievers but that PPG can still be used to benefit these pupils, if appropriate.
  • We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals.
  • We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
  • Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time

How can Parents and carers contribute to the success of the Pupil Premium scheme?

Parent support and involvement is a key factor in raising standards. If you would like help or advice in supporting your child we offer a meeting twice yearly which provides a good opportunity to listen to you and your child and review children’s progress and the intervention strategies that have been used. Alternatively, you can always ask your class teacher or email r information.

If your child is eligible for Free School Meals or is an infant child and part of the Universal Free School Meals, it is worth registering them, even if they are not going to have a school lunch. It will have a direct impact on the funding the school receives and we will maximise the support we can provide.
