Boston, Massachusetts, May, 2008 – PUMA® Sailing sets a course to make big waves this season by shaking up the age old sailing traditions of muted colors and elitist attitudes. The PUMA Sailing Spring/Summer 2009 Collection is festive, functional and full of color. Inspired by the real-life needs of high-performance sailing, the apparel, footwear and accessories stay true to the technical aspects of the sport while reinventing traditional silhouettes and styles.

Apparel
The Off Shore Coastal Race Jacket is the actual performance jacket worn by the PUMA Ocean Racing Team during the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009. Designed to withstand the punishing winds and extreme weather conditions these world-class sailors face during the nine months at sea, the jacket provides an outer wind and waterproof shell with GORE-TEX® membranes. It also features a fluorescent yellow hood for 180º visibility, stay-dry double cuffs and reflective elements placed strategically throughout the garment.
The PUMA Sailing Lifestyle Collection is designed for both the recreational weekend sailor and the urban dweller who dreams of the sea. The collection is sophisticated and inclusive. Taking inspiration from a traditional fisherman’s sweater, the men’s Port Sweater is perfect for a brisk day out on the water. PUMA’s take of the classic cable knit sweater features a twist; a hidden skull and cross bone knit into the front and back of the sweater. The Yacht Bermudas in a classic blue ticking striped are perfect for on or off the water. Taking inspiration from the performance gear, the back panels are reinforced to prevent against rips and tears. The Harbor Knit sweater features the traditional striping often seen in sailing but stripes on the body and the sleeves go in different directions to make a decidedly different nautical statement.
For women, the Port Pants, in dark navy, feature wide leg pants, draw string cords on the bottom hem and decorative buttons down the right front-side, all features are inspired by vintage sailing silhouettes. The Yacht Shirt, in dark navy poplin stripe, features a perfectly tailored silhouette, crisp white color and ¾ sleeves.
Accessories
The Performance Messenger Bag is a classic-style messenger bag made with true sailing performance in mind. The bag features minimal hardware and rugged, durable and lightweight material in bold PUMA red. The Mini Cargo Bag features playful dimensions and unique material combination of cotton canvas and reflective details. A drawstring cord opens to the main compartment, while a whistle sits in a clear pouch on the front.
Footwear
The Aqua Mostro L is the sailing version of PUMA’s most iconic shoe, the Mostro. A leather vulcanized shoe with an outsole designed to drain water. A non-marking sole, also available in canvas, makes it the perfect shoe on deck or on the town. The Aqua Mostro is the performance version of the Aqua Mostro L. A water shoe made of neoprene and carbon fiber in-sock and a non marking sole is designed to withstand all of the elements of sailing.
The PUMA Sailing Sportlifestyle Collection will be sold at PUMA Concept stores and select PUMA retailers beginning in January 2009.
