Pueblo Summer Arts Festivities

Bringing Art to the Streets!

Our goals for Street Beat include:

1.  Creating sustainable practices that encourage artists to “take to the streets”!

2.  Cultivating the image of Pueblo as an arts destination.

3.  Increasing economic impact from the arts by using street performers to attract activity downtown.

4.  Enriching the arts and cultural opportunities of our community.

Production Description:

The Pueblo Arts Alliance ensures a high standard of quality and professionalism while allowing the creative energy of our community to shine.

Street Beat will showcase:

·  Different art experiences in multiple locations in downtown Pueblo

·  Performances: June – October 2016

·  Auditioned, paid, professional talent

·  Schedule designed to reach specific yet varied audiences based on location and pedestrian traffic patterns

·  Performances will be identified for visitors using transportable signage

TALENT DESCRIPTION AND EXPECTATIONS

Street Beat will seek:

·  A wide variety of talent to perform as part of the Street Beat program June - October 2016

·  All talent wishing to audition must have a professional Facebook page as an individual or group in which they are showcasing what they will be doing on the streets if accepted.

·  A partial list of talent genres including: musical acts, jugglers and magicians, acting troupes, dancers, painters, face painters, character drawing, and visual artists.

·  Additional rules and regulations will be included in the contract.

Commonly Used Terms and Description:

Talent: the performer, entertainer, or artist, whether individual, group, or organization.

Performance: each performance scheduled will be for a one‐hour, two‐hour, or three‐hour block of time.

·  All talent will be paid during scheduled times and may accept tips during Street Beat performances.

·  Talent must be willing to interact with the general public and performances must be family friendly.

·  Talent must be costumed and/or present a professional image. Talent must be willing to work with the Pueblo Arts Alliance on changes to performance material and costuming, if needed, to be appropriate for general audiences and adhere to the image of the Pueblo Arts Alliance.

·  All equipment needed to perform is at the expense of the talent and solely their responsibility. There is limited access to electrical outlets. Sound system may be provided at some venues.

·  Hired talent will be required to attend a Pueblo Arts Alliance Street Beat orientation, and sign a contract, which includes an image/publicity release. Additional rules and regulations will be included in the contract.

·  Hired talent will be required to obtain and purchase their own Background Check and Peddler’s License with the City of Pueblo’s tax office (1 City Hall Place) prior to the orientation meeting. More information will be provided upon hire.

·  Pay scale range is $15 per hour for a solo performer, $30 for 2-3 performers, and $45 per hour for 4+ performers. Each performance should be made up of 30 or 45 minute sets with designated break times to be scheduled with Program Coordinator Courtney Bennett.

·  Talent will be hired as independent contractors and not as an agent, employee or servant of the Pueblo Arts Alliance.

·  Talent must be at least 16 years old, unless performing as part of an organization (i.e. school group) or group. Any organization or group with youth talent under 16 years old must include adult supervision.

·  Talent MUST have a professional Facebook page before the auditions. Judges will consider the amount of followers on the page.

TIMELINE 2016

5/9 Application due for pre-scheduled auditions, 5 PM deadline.

5/21 Live, public auditions from 1-3:30pm at the Riverwalk, on the “Grand Staircase,” located between Angelo’s and the Urban Renewal Building.

5/24 Talent selected to perform in Street Beat 2016. (Will receive an email notification.)

6/01 Summer schedule distributed to performers, Street Performer Training, Orientation at 107 S Grand Avenue. This meeting is mandatory. Time TBA.

6/3-10/07 Performances

TALENT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

·  Fill out application form completely (located on the “Street Beat Auditions” event page on Pueblo Creative Corridor’s Facebook Page and at www.puebloarts.org/program/street-beat/) or pick up a physical copy at the Pueblo Arts Alliance office located at 107 S. Grand Avenue, Studio I.

·  Individuals, groups, and organizations will be required to give a 5-minute live audition that includes two selections. The first selection will be performed, and the judges will ask for the second piece if they would like to hear it. Performers must audition to be selected. Performers will be selected by a panel of judges based on technical ability/quality, public interaction and engagement, overall quality, relevant experience, and references.

Note to Visual Artists:

·  Fill out application form completely.

·  The ability to engage the community in the process of producing your art is a key element of Street Beat audition. For this reason, you must also be present at the audition and/or submit a video of you in action. The artwork should be designed to allow passersby an opportunity to engage with the artist while working on site. All media will be considered. Materials must be appropriate for an exterior public venue.

Waiver of LIABILITY: In consideration of the Pueblo Arts Alliance and the City of Pueblo accepting this entry, I, the undersigned, intending to be legally bound, hereby for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages against, the Pueblo Arts Alliance the City of Pueblo, their representatives, successors and assigns for any and all injuries suffered by me or any member of my team at 2016 Pueblo Arts Alliance Scheduled events.

Further, I hereby grant full permission to the Pueblo Arts Alliance and/or their authorized agents, to use my photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, recordings and any other recorded image of 2016 Pueblo Arts Alliance events for any legitimate purpose.
