Glowing in the Night!!!

The Gabbs High School Gym was glowing on the night of September 25. The dance sponsored by the junior class was a night club theme. It was from 9:00pm to 12:00am at the Gabbs High School gym. The reason for putting this on was to make money for the prom this year and their senior trip.

Some students said it was fun then Dane Staton said, “They had multi-colored glow sticks. It was awesome!!!” The music was done by Shania Brown and Trevor Brown over Wendy Traub’s stereo.

The cost was four dollars for a single person and six dollars for a couple but admission also comes with free pizza and a soda. Additional soda was available if you wanted, for a dollar. The food and soda was all donated by Charity Brown, Raven Birchim, and Michael Fowler. Ms. Birchim also donated the glow sticks to light up the night.

The chaperones were Charity Brown, Don Brown, Jim McKinnon, and Wendy Traub. Some sources also tell me that the cop Jeff Stark was there but only to see how things were going. There were a total of 10 students that went.

If any students missed this glowing event there will be plenty more dances this year. Hopefully they will be better and more exciting than this last one. The next dance will be a western theme dance with country music. So until next time that’s all folks. BY: Michael Fowler

Gabbs Women’s Club Teacher’s Tea

Amazing, 56 years drinking tea with Teachers! On September 22, 2010 the annual Teacher’s Tea, sponsored by Gabbs Women’s Club, was held at the Gabbs Community Library. The purpose is to welcome teachers and to have a social hour open to teachers, school board members, county officers, and all adult members of the community. The Women’s Club serves tea, coffee, finger foods, and desserts. This year they served mini crème puffs, brownies, a variety of cookies, fancy little sandwiches, crackers mixed with shrimp, and taquitos. A special treat was the rosettes made by Wendy Traub.

While talking with Myrna Lumsden about the Teacher’s Tea, she stated that she welcomes everybody there and the teas always seem to go smoothly. From Myrna’s experiences, she stated, “I have attended all but one ever since 1976, the one being last year due to my illness.”

Myrna said, “The best things about the Teacher’s Tea are everybody’s in a good mood and it’s held in a relaxed atmosphere where you can get to know the teachers; it actually used to be held at the old wreck center.” When asked, Myrna said, “The worst thing about the Teacher’s Tea is that not enough parents come.” Myrna also said she would like to thank Jan Basinger and Patty Hall for the cleanup they did at this year’s Teacher’s Tea.

So as you could tell the Teacher’s Tea is an exciting and fun tradition that has continued for several years. Hopefully the Women’s Club can keep it going for another 56 years.
