POSITION TITLE: CHLAKIDS COMMUNITY WELLNESS COORDINATOR

SALARY:Commensurate with experience and education

The Children’s Clinic, Serving Children and Their Families invite applications for the full-time position of Long CHLAKIDS Community Wellness Coordinator.

Job OVERVIEW:

Based at The Children’s Clinic, this position was created to address the needs of Long Beach residents by providing a link between CHLAKIDS program efforts and the community. This person must be able to communicate effectively within the health care environment as well as with patients and their families. This person must be willing to perform grassroots activities in order to meet the goals of the larger community.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Deliver nutrition and physical activity education and resources to families with children ages 0-5.
  • Support DPH efforts to implement a County-wide voluntary public recognition program for restaurants that expand healthy children’s meal menu options.
  • Provide nutrition education and skills-building learning opportunities to parents and other care providers of children ages 0-5 in grocery stores and/or markets.
  • Support DPH in implementing a media plan to promote healthy eating and increase physical activity for children ages 0-5 and their parents/caregivers.
  • Assist with the development of a parent collaborative to disseminate nutrition and physical activity resources and build support for civic engagement goals among parents/caregivers of children ages 0-5.
  • Promote community assistance programs that reach eligible parents/caregivers of children ages 0-5.
  • Assist with the development of a sustainability plan.
  • Assist with administrative functions required for implementation of CHLAkids.
  • Assist with grant reporting and work with the Finance Department to monitor budget and provide financial reports.
  • Assist with other projects and assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • One year of health education experience with an emphasis on community programs.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish
  • Valid California Driver’s License, proof of insurance and access to a car required
  • Exhibits flexibility and ability to work independently on project tasks
  • Able to positively interact with a variety of program stakeholders, such as other department staff, area agencies and community members.
  • Proven success in prioritizing and meeting multiple project demands and deadlines.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills, initiative and follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal/interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer literate and skilled in use of MS Windows-based programs, including MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the Long Beach area, resources and services a plus.
