PTO Meeting Minutes November 9, 2009

Lori Winter began the meeting at 6:35 pm and welcomed everyone. Robin Bracco introduced the teachers present: Mrs. Nave – Assistant Principal, Ms. Woodward – CRT, Mrs. Johnson – music, Mrs. Hansard – 3rd grade, Mrs. Payne – 2nd grade, Ms. Marovich – 4th grade, Mrs. Cuellar – 5th grade and Mrs. Mitchell - Kgn.

The minutesfrom the October and November 2009 meetings reviewed. A Motion made by Mrs. Menacho and 2nd by Nichole Cottom and they were both approved.

Treasurer's Report - Genene Hammond reported our beginning balance was $9,862.34. We had a deposit for a few t-shirts sold. We paid Chick-fil-A and Sam’s Club for Teacher Appreciation dinners on Report card nights along with the yearly lease on the helium tank leaving us a balance of $8,886.85.

Chorus – Mrs. Johnson lead our Kidzone Chorus in 4 or 5 songs for us and they did an amazing job! Mrs. Johnson explained there are 32 members and 20 were able to come tonight. They will be singing at the American Legion on Veteran’s Day in Leesburg. One of our very own 3rd graders, Christopher Clark, wrote a poem for the American Legion. Mrs. Johnson also explained about the chorus shirts that PTO had graciously helped pay for in the past few years and has put in a request again this year. PTO helped pay for part of the shirts so parents didn’t have to pay so much. Motion was made by Dorothy Menacho and a 2nd was by Mrs. Rutz – request was approved to give Mrs. Johnson $250.00 to go towards chorus shirts for new chorus members.

Representation–Ms. Barney Woodward, our CRT shared the Title I School Improvement Plan (SIP). Tanya Jasper, our Family/School Liaison explained the next Family night will be Homework Helper Night on December 1st and our next nights to watch for are Science and FCAT Nights in January.

Old Business -

a. Cookbooks – we still have those available in the front office for $7.00.

b. Nurse – still needs used clothes and new underwear/socks. Now that it’s getting cold coats are needed.

Committee Reports -

a. Fundraiser/Believe – Orders will were delivered this month. Anything missing/broken parents need to call the 800# listed on paperwork that came with the orders. So far only a 3-4 items were missing/broken. Very good fundraiser! Dr. DeJarlais wore her HOT PINK wig ALL day on Spirit Day!

b. Cookie Dough – dates will be set with the company for sometime in the spring.

c. Next Family Night – Chick-fil-A in The Villages on November 19th, 4-8pm

d. Spirit Day – December 4th - students will wear their class HOUSE colors!!

New Business -

a. New 2009-2010 Budget – reviewed hand out listing items PTO will be paying for this year. AR program, 5th Grade promotion, field trips, yearbook, Math Superstars, Dog Tag program, Teacher appreciation, Helium Tank, t-shirts, Math Dog Tags and Chorus Shirts. Motion was made my Nichole Cottom and 2nd by Dorothy Menacho and budget was approved.

Announcements/Principals Comments

a. Duck Race – FPE WON! Sold more tickets then any other school! FPE won $2000 – ice cream will be purchased from Sonic for every student and delivered at lunch next week.

b. There is NO school on Wednesday, November 11 (ELC will be open) for Veteran’s Day

Principal’s Comments

a. Mrs. Nave represented the administration tonight. Dr. DeJarlais was with Mrs. Kimberly Belcher as she was receiving an award!

b. Mrs. Nave announced that the Report Card Conference Nights were well represented by parents. Chick-fil-A and Sonic were there for parents to purchase dinner for their families before conference times. The school made about $200 from Sonic and haven’t heard from Chick-fil-A on what we made from them.

c. Awards Assemblies this week…Monday is Kgn – 3rd, Tuesday is 1st and 4th then Friday is 2nd and 5th this week.

Next meeting is December 14th at 6:30 pm.
