PTO is a great way to get involved in your child’s education. Your volunteer commitment with Harman School is an enormous contribution to your school and your child.

We have many committees and activities that need volunteers. Please mark all committees that interest you. Not every committee is represented at Open House, so please check any that interest you. The committee chairs are listed if you have further questions.

___ Battle of the Books: Parent-led competition, between groups 3rd-5th grade students, related to an assigned reading list. Help facilitate the program and assist with the final competition. Alison Silvain & Sarah Greathouse

___Chess Club: Help bring this game of strategy to Harman students. Chess Club meets at lunch. 1st and 2nd grade, September and October, 3rd and 6th grade November through January. Tournament is in February and March. Volunteer twice a month. No experience necessary. Gina Ooi

____ COSI on Wheels Science Program: This program begins with a high energy, interactive assembly presentation for the whole school. The students will return in groups of three to four classes for hands-on activities. To facilitate COSI, we will need 15-20 adult volunteers for the AM or PM or all day sessions. Volunteers will be used at the activity tables to facilitate the experiments. Lunch is provided as well as morning coffee. Set up help is needed the day before the program. Kelly Hick

____Grand Affair: Work with a team of volunteers to prepare for Harman’s student art show. Mychaelyn Michalec & KC Stack

____Harmany Literary Magazine: February through April. Compile and edit student entries for annual spring publication. This can be done from home. Ashley Kirsch

____Spanish Club: Explore the Spanish Language through art, music, dance, games and fun. Meets on Thursdays during lunch. Meetings start in January and are monthly. 1st graders meet first Thursday and 2nd/3rd graders meet second Thursday. Volunteer once a month. Alicia Dunlap and Rocio Ruiz

____Coding Club: Do you like to work on puzzles and solve problems? Come join coding club where we will develop computer science skills using a fun and creative coding environment. Robert Merithew (937)668-7361 & Chris Williams (303) 931-6885

____Book Fair: Tentatively October. Flexible opportunities and hours- setup-tear down, assist students, cashier. Select a day and shift that fits your schedule. Katherine Cezeaux (210) 386-5182

____Shop, Save and Earn: Help snip and count boxtops on a monthly basis. Volunteer as much as you want. This can be done at home. Kristen Erwin

____DARE: Hospitality: Spring. Provide refreshments and drinks for the ceremony. Cara Porcelli

____ Everybody Counts: November. Work with a team of volunteers to present classroom programs on physical and developmental challenges for some students. Presentation materials and training provided. Katie Brennaman

____Cafeteria: Serve lunch from 11:30-12:40 once a week, once a month or as many times as you would like. Cristy Oakes-Livingston

____Directory: Help create the annual PTO directory. Work is done mostly from a home computer and in the summer. Jennifer Makkas Shannon Mackie

____Gardens: Work with a group of volunteers to maintain Harman’s green space, knowledge of flowers and weeds not necessary! Emily Pelligra

____Harman Workroom: Provide teacher support in the workroom- copy,cut, laminate, staple, organize Box Tops. Volunteer 1 day/week or 2 days/month, 1-3 hours. Training provided.
