COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GOALS

I am looking forward to spending the next few months helping you to understand the world of Psychology. This class will give you a new perspective on the human mind and its inner workings. My goal is to help you understand your own behavior and that of other’s around you.

Grade / Scale
94 – A / 70 – C-
90 – A- / 67 – D+
87 – B+ / 64 – D
84 – B / 60 – D-
80 – B- / 0 – F
77 – C+
74 – C

GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING

  1. Group Presentations
  2. Homework assignments/ Quizzes
  3. Journal entries and writing assignments
  4. Class Participation

LATE WORK

Homework for each unit must be handed in before the start of the next unit. Students with excused absences will be allowed to hand in their work the following class date. If extenuating circumstances exist I will be more than happy to work with that student, but it is the responsibility of that student to alert me to the circumstance. Homework missed do to skipping class or sluffing will not be allowed to be made up.

OOPS PASSES

Students will be given 2 “Oops” passes at the beginning of each quarter. These can be used anytime during the quarter to turn in an assignment that is late. You must attach the “Oops” pass to the assignment which will then be graded. Extra Credit will be given for any “Oops” passes turned in at the end of the quarter providing all assignments have been turned in. Extra Credit for each unused pass will equal 1% of final quarter point base.

QUIZZES

There will be a quiz at the end each unit. Quizzes can only be made up if the absence is excused or if we discussed your absence before-hand. Make up will be done by scheduling with me.

JOURNALS

Every student will need to have a composite notebook to use as a journal. Each class period will start with a journal entry.

CELL PHONES/DEVICES

If a student is found using their phone/device during class it will be confiscated.

First Offense: phone will be taken until the end of that class period.

Second Offense: phone will be taken until the end of the day.

Third Offense: phone will be taken to the office and you will have to go through administration to get it back. Citizenship decrease.

CLASS BEHAVIOR

  1. Excellent attendance is critical. Please make every effort to be to each class. Much of the work we do will be performed in class and will not be replicable at home.
  2. School dress codes will be adhered to in this class. This includes the removal of all hats, bandanas, and hoods.
  3. Class will start promptly after the tardy bell rings. If you come to class after roll call, please report to me to have the absence changed to tardy.
  4. Cheating only hurts the cheater. As an important component of good character, please follow instructions as to how tests and quizzes are administered. Anyone caught cheating will receive zero points for the assignment and a “U” on his or her citizenship. Plagiarism in any form is cheating.
  5. Cell phones will only be allowed for specific use. If you are caught using your phone during lecture it will be confiscated until after class.

Above all else that I expect in this class; I expect RESPECT. Not just towards me as your teacher, but towards each other and anyone else you come in contact with. I look forward to a fun and exciting year sharing my love and knowledge of Psychology with you. I want every student to feel safe, welcome and enthusiastic each day they walk into my classroom. I am more than happy to help answer questions. Do NOT hesitate to ask, because I promise you aren’t the only one.
