PSWSFA JUNE 23-JUNE 24 2017 COBIA BOWL RULES-SEPERATE REGISTRATION EACH FISHING DAY JUNE 23RD AND JUNE 24TH:
1. Official tournament starting time is 6:00 AM (lines in the water) and will terminate at 4:00 PM that same day. You can leave from any port. Fish can be brought by car or boat but must be weighed at Dare Marina and you must be standing in the weigh-in line by 4:00 PM the day you fish. There will be optional fish check-in stations for the Friday fishing day. On Friday, anglers may bring their fish to one of these stations instead of Dare Marina but you must be in line at these stations by 3:00 PM. On the Saturday fishing day, all fish must be brought to the weigh station at Dare Marina by 4:00 PM.
2. There will be a tournament Captain’s Meeting on Thursday, June 22, 2017, 7:00 PM, at Dare Marina. At least one member from each team must attend. Rule changes can be made at the captains meeting.
3. This is a boat tournament. Winners will be determined by the weight of the team’s single fish. In the event of a tie, the time of weigh-in or check-in will be the tie-breaker.
4. The general entry fee for each boat is $200 per fishing day if received by 9:00 PM June 8. The entry fee after that time will be $300 per boat per fishing day.
5. Teams with a professional crew member, charter boat captains or commercial hook-and-line license holders, must fish on a sponsored boat or register at the professional entry fee of $400 per boat per day if received by 9:00 PM June 8. After that time, the professional boat entry fee will be $500 per boat per fishing day.
6. Fishing days will be Friday June 23 and Saturday June 24. Teams may register to fish either day or may register to fish both days. Teams must be registered (and fee paid in full) prior to the end of the Captain’s Meeting. Proof of tournament registration must be presented to the weigh master when entering fish. In the event of a team fishing for different sponsors each day or a sponsor one day and as a private boat the other, which sponsor they are fishing for on which day must be indicated on the registration forms.
7. Fish must be caught by rod and reel only. This is a recreational fishing tournament. All boats must follow current recreational fishing regulations even if they have licenses/permits allowing them to keep fish outside of recreational size and creel limits. No fish caught during this tournament may be sold.
8. A polygraph exam will be required for the winners. Failure to pass the polygraph will result in disqualification.
9. All fish are subject to thorough examination, both external and internal. Fish weighed in will not be returned to the anglers. All weighed fish will be used for scientific data collection.
10. Anglers are urged to display proper boat handling and courtesy towards others.
11. Anglers are advised to maintain an active weather watch when fishing Virginia’s waters. The captain and crew must decide on their own when and where to fish during this tournament and they are solely responsible for their safety.
12. Teams must immediately call in their cobia catches, of fish not immediately released, either by cell phone or by vhf radio to a committee boat. Competitors are subject to inspection by a committee boat at any time and must follow all directions of the committee boat.
13. Anglers are responsible for all applicable taxes on prizes received. Winners shall allow the PSWSFA and the sponsors the opportunity and right to film, videotape, record, and photograph the winners and to use the prize winner’s name, voice and likeness without further compensation for advertising and promotion of the PSWSFA and the sponsors.
14. All participants agree that the PSWSFA, Dare Marina, and any sponsor of this tournament shall not be liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind resulting from participation in this tournament or from the acceptance or use of any awarded prize.
15. Any protest must be filed by 4:30 PM on June 24th. The protest must be made directly to an official of the tournament committee. The tournament committee will review any and all protests and their decisions will be final.
16. Any contestant found guilty of cheating, attempting to cheat, or otherwise deviating from the regulations of this tournament, shall be disqualified and considered ineligible for further and future participation and will be prosecuted.
17. Tournament committee members are not eligible to fish in this tournament. They will be identified at the Captain’s Meeting on June 22, 2016.
18. The Tournament Committee shall consists of a minimum of three people; a director and two assistants all sanctioned by the PSWSFA.
19. Fish that will be entered into the tournament must be tagged with tags that will be supplied at the Captain’s Meeting.
20. There will be optional Calcuttas of 3 levels for each fishing day. The previous level must be entered to enter the next. Entry fees are: Level 1-$100, Level 2-$200, Level 3-$500. Each Calcutta will be paid out at 60% for first place, 40% for second place. In the event only one fish is entered in any Calcutta, the winner will receive 100%. In the event that no fish are entered in any Calcutta, a drawing of entered teams will be held to determine the winner of that Calcutta.
21. In the event that no cobia are weighed in during the two days of the tournament, winners will be determined by drawing.
22. Maximum payouts are based on a minimum of 100 entered boats. Lesser number of boats entered will result in a percentage reduction of all prizes: 1st Place $7,500, 2nd Place $3,500, 3rd Place $2,000, 4th Place $1,500, 5th Place $1,000, 6th Place $500.
23. Sponsors Challenge Division – Sponsored teams will be entered into the regular division and a separate sponsor’s division. The sponsor whose team weighs in the heaviest cobia will win $2,000 maximum.
24. “Lucky Dog” –will have a maximum payout of $1,000 based on number of boat entries but if there are no qualifying cobia in the Ladies, Youth or PSWSFA divisions, those prizes will be added to the Lucky Dog award. Teams not placing in the top 6 will be entered into a "Lucky Dog" drawing. A member of the team must be present to win. If no member of the winning team is present, another team will be drawn.
26. Ladies Division – The heaviest fish wins a maximum of $250.00. Fish may also be entered in the main event.
27. Youth Division – children 15 years old and under may participate. The heaviest fish wins a maximum of $250.00. Fish may also be entered in the main event.
28. Club Division - The PSWSFA member with the heaviest fish wins a maximum of $500.00. Fish may also be entered in the main event.
29. Costa Release Division-the boat that releases the most cobia each day will win a pair of Costa sunglasses. Teams must go through “weigh-in” to enter this division even if they do not have a cobia to weigh. Time of weigh-in or check-in will be the tie-breaker.
30. No cobia may be “released” dead.
