Letter to the Philadelphia 76r’s,

This is a letter to the Philadelphia 76r’s, regarding their current job opening for the position of a Photographer and Asset Coordinator. With my vast variety of education and professional experience, I believe my skillset can offer the 76r’s some beautiful work. Examples of my work can be seen on my website, www.nathangentryphoto.com

As of December 16th, 2016, I became a graduate of Texas State University. My education granted me with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electronic Media and a minor in Photography intense art. Throughout my tenure at Texas State, I gained the knowledge of what it takes to be a great photographer, videographer, editor and writer. I was able to craft my skills in the artform of photo/videography to master lighting techniques; edit my work to perfection with multiple Adobe editing suites, work with my space and model to create stunning visuals and much more. Moreover, I began to take the steps of becoming a great writer. With an education under the Mass Communication field, my degree was considered to be a journalism degree. This ultimately guided me to become a great writer for news sources, blogs, sports agencies and social media.

Prior to graduating Texas State, I began my professional, freelance career. I began to work as a photographer for several sports organizations like the San Antonio Spurs organization, Texas State Athletics, Philadelphia Phillies and UTSA to name a few. For these organizations, I was required to capture beautiful imagery, video and occasionally write short stories of the visuals I captured. My work was honored by these companies on their websites, billboards, magazines and much more. All of the knowledge I gained by working with these sports organizations led hand to me being a strong artist who can create visuals and written stories for any sport related topic. Some organizations, like the San Antonio FC, saw the persistence I put into creating beautiful work and invited me to shoot their very first Home Opening game as a professional soccer team. This also led to invitations to shoot more photo and video for other professional entities like, TED Talks, Picture People Marketing, Becker Reality and Hampton Financial. Meanwhile, I was also working on my fine arts career. I began hosting several gallery shows throughout Texas. By doing this, I gained valuable experience in branding, advertising, time management and planning. More importantly, I began to see my work published in booked like the San Martian Art League, Texas State’s College Report and my own self-published book, Spirit Rock.

Today, I am working to earn my Masters of Art degree at Point Park University. In my return to higher education, I am working for earn my degree in Documentary Specialization. This means, I am taking the already strong skillset I have in photo, video and writing and really perfecting it. My experience in creating visual art has and will continue to expand to lend hand at creating documentary style photo and video projects. Many of the course I have taken, and will take, will also take my writing skills to the next level. Now, I can write for an even broader market or news sources and organizations by writing multi-platform pieces in both the inverted pyramid and Washington Post styles. Although I have not yet had any of my stories published by news sources yet, I have seen my writing grow dramatically in many of my own pieces- which have seen a lot of praise through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and my own website.

By the time I have graduated from Point Park University, I believe the vast professional qualities I currently have will become a perfected expertise that the Philadelphia 76r’s will benefit from. Not only do I believe that I will be able to create great work for the 76r’s organization, but I can see my work grow the 76r organization in the digital and visual realm. With our collaboration both the 76r’s and I will become stronger and more compelling to any audience that we come across. I can only see a positive outcome for both of our futures.

Sincerely,

Nathan Gentry
