Job Title / Assistant Editor, Art Guide
Department / Communications
Reports to / Digital Editor
Purpose of Role
The Assistant Editor will manage and create content for a rich, dynamic and comprehensive guide to venues and exhibitions across the UK, with an emphasis on the benefits of the National Art Pass (NAP). They will ensure that content will be seeded resourcefully and produced for a number of platforms, including:
·  Art Guide app
·  Art Fund Website
·  Preview in Art Quarterly
·  Exhibitions Guide (produced by marketing)
The Assistant Editor role is central to the Art Fund’s key strategic objective to become the ‘one stop shop for art lovers’. The post also involves producing a quarterly Events booklet that is received by members with Art Quarterly and highlights events organised by members in support of the Art Fund.
The Assistant Editor will be the organisation’s key contact for museums and exhibition content, ensuring the work flow and management and accuracy of shared content between print and digital platforms are run proficiently. The Assistant Editor will work closely with the marketing team and the rest of the communications team to ensure priorities are understood, schedules comprehensive and content produced by deadlines.
They will also have the opportunity to contribute to the Digital Editor’s planning for multi-media content around specific museums and exhibitions, the development of the CMS as the overall database of information, and in increasing the comprehensiveness of the Art Guide through the development of external feeds into the website.
Key Accountabilities
DIGITAL
·  Act as the lead producer and editor of content for the Art Fund’s Art Guide – manifesting on multiple platforms including the Art Guide app, Preview in Art Quarterly, Artfund.org, social media and working closely with the marketing team on content for National Art Pass marketing materials including regular leaflets
·  Run the museum/gallery/exhibition content schedule, working closely with marketing
·  Sourcing, editing and clearing copyright of images
·  Writing and commissioning copy
·  Populate and curate the Art Guide app and maintain it as a leading resource, reporting bugs and errors when appropriate
·  Manage dynamic, up-to-date NAP coverage on the artfund.org homepage and What to see section landing pages with daily updates, calling on the Digital Assistant as necessary
·  Work with the Senior Marketing Manager to ensure timely coverage of new NAP benefits as and when they are negotiated and ensure marketing priorities are accounted for in the content schedule.
·  Work alongside the Digital Editor, Senior Marketing Manager and Art Quarterly Editor to provide a quarterly overview of new exhibitions and venue highlights across the UK
·  Monitor the online coverage of events, NAP offers and holidays, which are inputted by the Marketing Assistant and Volunteering Executive
·  Work with the Digital Editor and marketing team to provide NAP copy for E-news, and editing drafts as they emerge
·  Oversee the aggregation of reviews for exhibitions with the Digital Assistant
·  Work alongside the Digital Editor and Digital Assistant to cultivate, nurture and communicate with our growing communities on social media networks
·  To contribute content ideas, initiatives and projects which will help grow visitors to artfund.org, press coverage and newsletter and social media subscribers
·  Work with the Digital Editor to manage content feeds from external sources and freelancers
PRINT
·  Research and produce content (words and images) to deadline for the Preview section of Art Quarterly, working closely with the Editor
·  Manage and produce the Events booklet working alongside the Volunteering teams and regional chairs and Art Quarterly sub-editor. This includes writing copy and image research.
Other Activities, Duties and Responsibilities
To perform any tasks as reasonably requested by managers and which relates to the overall Assistant Editor role.
Contribute to the overall delivery of the work of the communications team.
To actively participate in the wider life of the Art Fund.
To undertake other duties as requested by the Art Fund from time to time.

PERSON DESCRIPTION

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications / ·  Educated to degree level or equivalent
Knowledge / ·  Demonstrable understanding of relationship between editorial content on websites and printed media
Skills/Abilities/
Competencies / ·  Copywriting, copyediting, proofreading and English language skills
Experience / ·  Experience of editing online
·  Experience of editing magazine or book layouts
·  Ability to use InDesign / ·  Strong appreciation of design and ability to evaluate images
·  Knowledge of Indesign6
