Provisional Cyber Services Contract

______has agreed to participate in ______School District’s cyber services program as a provisional candidate. By signing below, the student and guardian acknowledge the individual terms and conditions agreed upon by both parties. A failure to adhere to any part of those terms and conditions may result in the discontinuing of cyber services. Upon the successful completion of the Provisional Terms and Conditions, the student will be permitted to receive full time cyber services under the Full Time Cyber Services Terms and Conditions.

______School District’s Cyber Services Provisional Terms and Conditions

All provisional candidates for cyber services will be given access tone online course. The student will be given 10 days to complete at least 25% of the course work while maintaining a grade of 80% or higher. Students and guardians are responsible for reporting any technical or curricular problems to the school guidance office within 24 hours the issue arises. The district will make every effort to provide services, but if technical or curricular issues prevent the implementation of a quality education, the district reserves the right to withdraw services.

Upon the successful completion of the Provisional Terms and Conditions, the student will be given full time cyber services status. At this point, the student and guardian will meet with a representative from the school to develop an individualized learning plan and to review the Full Time Cyber Services Terms and Conditions. If the student and/or guardian are not in agreement with any part of the Full Time Cyber Services Terms and Conditions, services will be discontinued.

All equipment and curriculum used for cyber services must be returned within 5 days of the completion of services. All full time cyber service students will be reimbursed for one internet connection per household (not to exceed $__/month) during the period he/she receives cyber services. During the provisional period, families are responsible for hardware and Internet connection.

______Learning Options

______School District takes great pride in offering students the most appropriate learning environment fo their individual needs. Students are first enrolled into the Brick-and- Mortar option and must be accepted into other learning options.

Bricks-and-Mortar

Students attend classes in person and receive instruction in a physical classroom, during normal school hours.

Distance Learning

Students take one or two asynchronous (anytime/anywhere) virtual classes. Student progress is monitored, but instruction is not directly given.

Online Learning

Students are given choices of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (anytime/anywhere) virtual classes in place of Brick-an-Mortar. Depending on the student’s status in the program, they will connect to their coursework in school or at home. These students are monitored very closely to ensure successful completion of coursework.

Hybrid Learning

Students have the ability to combine multiple learning options. These programs can be customized after acceptance from each program’s coordinator.

Night School/ Alternative Education

Students attend classes in person and receive instruction in a physical classroom, but classes start at 3:0 pm and end at 6:00 pm each day.

Vocational Education

Students attend a different educational program with the goal of learning a specific trade.

Dual Enrollment

Students spend part of their day working on higher education courses with the ability to receive college credit for their coursework.

Independent Study

Students work on customized coursework. This option must be pre-approved and offer the support of an existing staff member.

Policies for Online Learners

  • Students must communicate with the school district at least once every 10 school days. Communication can be made by phone, email or in person. The district and online learning families must agree on times, days, and types of communication before the start of work.
  • Year long courses must be completed according to the districts academic calendar unless alternative plans have been made.
  • Asynchronous courses must be completed within 120 days of the start date.
  • Course completion dates can be extended. A written request must be presented to the district before the 20 days from the scheduled end date. Each circumstance will be independently reviewed.
  • Students must maintain adequate progress to continue with online learning.
  • Year long asynchronous courses must be completed ¼ of the course study by the end of each of the district’s 9-week grading periods. Extensions can be granted, but must be requested in writing before the end of each quarter.
  • Semester long asynchronous course must be accepted as ½ completed by the end of day 51 from the start date.
  • Synchronous course offerings will follow the policies of the district’s brick-and-Mortar classes.
  • Hybrid courses, those containing both asynchronous and synchronous components, will follow the policies of the district’s brick-and-Mortar classes.
  • If a student is not working towards adequate progress, the following procedures will occur:
  • If adequate progress does not occur within ten (10) school calendar days, the district reserves the right to contact the family and develop strategies to improve student productivity. If the family and district cannot agree to specific strategies, the district reserves the right to deny specific online learning options at any time to any student not making adequate progress in an online course.
  • If ten (10) additional school calendar days pass and the students does not make adequate progress in their course work, the family must meet with a representative from the district to review progress and improvement strategies. Improvement strategies may be modified at t his point. The district reserves the right to deny specific online learning options at any time to any student not making adequate progress in an online course.
  • If the student does not make adequate progress within ten (10) school calendar days after second contact concerning failure to make adequate progress, the online learning option will no longer be offered to the student.
  • Any special services requests must be done through the district’s Director of Special Education.
  • Students may change online learning options upon the completion of current coursework.
  • Synchronous and hybrid courses will be offered at the start of each semester.
  • Asynchronous courses may offer flexible start dates.
  • All online courses must be completed by the end of the school calendar unless district approval allows for exceptions. All exception will be made on an individual basis.
  • All online learning students must agree to the district’s acceptable use policy.
  • Online learning students must report to the respective office upon entering the brick-and-mortar building.
  • The district reserves the right to amend or change online learning policies at any time upon informing participating online students.
