Casework Volunteer

We are a women only charity that supports refugee and asylum seeking women, including pre and post natal women, victims of sexual violence, trafficking, domestic slavery and human rights abuses.

We are looking for a Casework Volunteer to support us with a range of different tasks. The role would be suitable for someone with an interest in refugee and asylum issues, someone studying in a relevant field or someone who has experience in the sector. As a small charity we rely on the work of volunteers and in return can offer valuable experience.

Job Description

•  Providing advocacy and casework on behalf of service users.

•  Contacting the Home Office, Migrant Help, housing providers, and other services on behalf of service users by phone, fax and email.

•  Making referrals and signposting service users to specialist support services.

•  Accompanying service users to appointments

•  Keeping accurate records and updating our database

•  Filing and administrative tasks.

We ask all casework volunteers to commit to volunteering 6 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months.

Person Specification

·  A good level of written and spoken English

·  Confident at communicating over phone and email.

·  Understanding of the barriers facing refugees and asylum seekers in the UK

·  Experience of doing casework or studying for a relevant qualification e.g. social work, law (Desirable)

·  Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality (Desirable)

·  A second language, especially Arabic, Kurdish Sorani, Farsi or Albanian (Desirable)

Please note that, due to the nature of the work involved, this position is restricted to female only applicants.

Please note that it will be necessary for you to undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
