Description of Service
The Positive Care Partnerships Clinical Business Unit provides a range of specialist mental health services across Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby. These range from acute inpatient care, home treatment, community care and specialist services.
The Service aims to
  • Provide innovative leading edge care services for our community, which promote recovery and well-being, whilst ensuring service user, staff and public safety,
  • Provide a more focused business service orientation, which will achieve national and local targets and acceptable levels of performance,
  • Provide services which represent best value whilst ensuring persons of all ages, ethnicities and cultures receive high quality competent and effective interventions and provision.

Setting where work will be carried out
  • The trainee will work with Dr. Agarwal (Crosby CMHT) and Dr. McCarthy (Maghull CMHT) and work with the CMHT based at Haigh Road.
  • There will be opportunities to work in the community, especially in collaboration with the CMHT staff.
  • The trainee will also have the opportunity to assess liaison psychiatry referrals at AintreeHospital.
  • The trainee will have links with the Acute Care Team at Aintree, who look after inpatients from the CMHT catchment area and with the CRHT.
  • The trainee will undertake clinical assessments in the community, Hesketh Centre, Aintree AED, Stoddart House (Aintree), Broadoak Unit and Windsor Clinic when on call.
General Overview of Training Experience and Job Role:
There will be an expectation that you attend local postgraduate teaching programmes, as well as specific programmes that are available.
  • Attend Academic meetings
  • Individual supervision – weekly 1 hour
  • Opportunities exist for training by the Clinical Psychologist
  • Regular opportunities exist to teach medical students and other clinical observers
  • Opportunities to gain knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and Mental Capacity Act (2005).
  • Opportunity and supervision is available to undertake an audit project.
Responsibilities of Trainee
Clinical duties include outpatient assessment of new and follow up cases, as well as CPA reviews.
The trainee will liaise with colleagues in primary care, secondary care and other agencies where relevant.
The trainee will play a role in medical student teaching and support the junior doctors attached to the CMHT.
The trainee will provide timely, accurate and comprehensive documentation to service users open to CMHT Central.
The trainee will undertake urgent reviews of service users in conjunction with CMHT staff as necessary.
