SUMMARY OF MAIN FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE OF JOB
Provide 24 hour radiographic services in the x-ray department. Ability to provide a range of services inter alia Cath Lab procedures, adherence to compliance with radiation control, setting standards and protocols in accordance with best practices and meeting legal standards and requirements. The Senior Radiographer will be expected to work closely with the Chief Radiographer to ensure a seamless process within the department.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides 24 hour radiographic services. Ability to meet strict deadlines, work under pressure and to work| long and irregular hours if there is a need.
  • Provide, coordinate and supervise high quality radiographic services.
  • To undertake a wide range of Cath Lab and interventional procedures to children effectively and efficiently.
  • Working with the Chief Radiographer to set standards and protocols, functioning in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standard and requirements.
  • To maintain clinical stock and supplies in the department.
  • Ensure compliance with National core standards as stipulated by the department.
  • Ensure the safe use and maintenance of highly specialised imagining equipment and to adhere to all local Cath Lab and interventional procedures and to report problems to senior members of staff and on-site engineering support.
  • Adhere and ensure compliance with radiation control board, Hazardous Substance Act, HPCSA and all other relevant legislations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Requirements of the role
  • National Diploma in Diagnostic radiography or relevant qualification.
  • Current registration with HPCSA as a diagnostic radiographer.
  • A minimum of 3years’ experience in the diagnostic radiography profession after registration with HPCSA.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a full time radiographer in a paediatric radiology Cath Labdepartment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Knowledge and implementation of all labour laws and the ability to communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Management of junior staff and workforce review and perform PDMS at relevant times.
  • Commitment to continuing personal professional development.
  • Ensure good communication and team work in the Radiology department.
  • Relevant technological and computer literate.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are necessary.
