How much money can I keep?

NCT takes a 30% commission on all sales which goes towards the charity’s work supporting local mums and dads, preparing them for birth and early parenthood. You should expect to receive your proceeds cheque within 4-6 weeks of the sale.

What can be sold?

All items are clean, in good condition and marked according to these instructions. Items that are not nearly new will not be displayed for sale.

- Baby and children’s clothes up to age 5. All clothing should be cleaned, ironed and in excellent condition (maximum of 30 items of clothing).

- Maternity wear.

- Children’s toys, games, DVDs and books. All should be clean, safe and complete.

- Door bouncers, activity centres and walkers,

- Children’s bikes where the saddle is less than 635mm from the ground with tyres fully inflated.

- Equipment such as playpens, cots, travel cots and stair gates are popular. All should include fittings and instructions.

- Reusable nappies.

- Feeding equipment should be in original packaging and unused.

- Pushchairs, prams and buggies must conform to the legal requirements of the Wheeled Child Conveyances (Safety) regulations 1997. They must have a permanent label (usually on the frame or seat cover) stating compliance with British Standard 7409 or EN1888.

- Materials must also have a label headed ‘Carelessness Causes Fire’ which indicates that the fabric complies with flammability requirement.

What cannot be sold?

- Mattresses (unless waterproof or with travel cot).

- Cycle helmets and riding hats.

- Children’s outer garments with a draw string hood.

- Bag style slings are those with a deep pouch and an elasticated edge. Whilst not all these products have not been recalled, they may cause breathing difficulties in young babies.

- Bottles, baby food & formula milk

- Recalled items (see information about recalls on RAPEX:

How should I package my items?

- Bring your items in a box with your seller number and name clearly marked on it.

- We recommend that all clothing is put on hangers as it is easier to display than in bags. If selling a bundle of items please ensure they are firmly attached to each other and that the price tag states clearly what is included in the bundle.

- If your item contains detachable pieces, eg. equipment or toys, then be sure they are attached firmly to the item or bagged together so they cannot be lost.

- If you have the original packaging and or instructions please include them - but don't tape it shut as people who can't check the goods inside may be reluctant to buy it.

Labelling:

- Please do not use any previous seller number, as we will be unable to credit your proceeds after the sale. Please ensure that you re-label items and boxes if you have sold before.

- Complete a ticket for every item that you wish to sell and attach to the item. There is more information about labelling items, what can be sold and pricing below.

- Please note: Due to the large amount of clothes in the past we have decided to limit the amount of clothes sold by sellers to 30 items each. Items least likely to sell are vests and sleepsuits and items that are in bags. It is preferable for items to be hung on hangers as they are more accessible for buyers.

- Filling in the labels - Carefully complete both sections of the label and remember to use your seller number. The bottom section is the part we use to credit you as the seller after the sale. Please make sure his section is completed clearly.

- Labelling clothes - attach the label securely to the top of garment using a safety pin or tape – do not use sewing pins. Leave the bottom section of the ticket free so it can be removed at the till. Pre-sort clothing by size/sex into plastic bags/boxes. Your own hangers can’t be returned but you can collect an equivalent number after the sale.

- Labelling other items - attach the top of the label to the item using tape.

- Please provide strong cardboard/plastic boxes labelled with your name and seller number for us to collate any unsold items.

- Once your registration is confirmed and you have been allocated a seller number you will be sent a label to print out with your seller number on to attach to each box.

What happens after the sale?

- After the sale your items will be sorted into the labelled box you have provided and will be available for you to collect at 1.30pm – 2pm. Make sure that you also check the lost labels table.

- Please note that, whilst we do our best to provide reasonable security at sales, all items are left at the venue at the seller’s risk. NCT accepts no liability for any loss or damage caused to goods for sale.

- A cheque and sold item labels will be posted to you within 4 – 6 weeks of the sale. Our treasurer works hard to post out all cheques as soon as possible, but do let us know if you have not received your money a month after the sale. Check your labels and payment sheets carefully and let us know as soon as possible if you think there are any mistakes. Please note that counting the tickets take a lot of man hours and volunteers. Unfortunately we are not able to double check an individual seller's tickets after the count had been completed and finalised. If you are not happy with this arrangement then we suggest you do not sell at the sale.

Thank you for registering to sell at the sale. If, after reading this information, you have any questions, please e-mail

Regards

Tanya Edwards, Abingdon NCT Nearly New Sale Co-ordinator
