Doctoral Comprehensive Examination Option (choose one):

* The doctoral student completes a written major comprehensive examination of approximately 8 hours in length. The examination normally will be written in 4-hour sessions on two consecutive days. No outside resources may be used.
** The doctoral student answers four comprehensive questions in the major area of study. Students may take two weeks to complete each question for a total of eight weeks to complete all four. All available resources should be used (e.g., research articles, literature, texts) to answer the questions fully with meaningful and appropriate citations.
COURSEWORK
The following program of study reflects doctoral requirements for individuals entering without previous graduate training in school psychology. Individuals who have completed recent training in school psychology prior to admission will have reduced requirements in one or more of the major areas. Previous graduate courses that replace required courses through approved waivers or substitutions should be listed in the “previous coursework” section of each major area. An individual student’s specific program of study will be specified by the Advisory Phase Committee, reflected in the student’s prospectus, and approved by the Program Coordinator, the Department Chair, and the Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs and Graduate Education.

*The total number of required hours in each student’s Plan of Study/Residency Plan will vary based on previous graduate coursework, point of entry into the program, program area advisor input, and the Kent State University School Psychology Program requirements. The College and GraduateSchool of Education, Health and Human Services’ minimum requirement for a doctoral degree is 60 credit hours beyond the master’s degree. Given the requirements of the accreditation bodies governing the KSUSchool Psychology Program, the typical number of required hours for the doctoral degree will exceed that of the minimum college requirement. (See page 1 for more information).
