Prospective Flowood Archery Team
2017-2018
Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to invite all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students to tryout for the 2017- 2018 Flowood Archery Team. Archery is an extracurricular activity that is known to increase self-discipline and focus, strengthen physical fitness, and help students with their listening and observation skills. Archery also teaches students life skills and patience, while wanting to spend time outdoors.
**If your child is interested in trying out for the archery team, please read and respond to the following letter.
Our first tryout will be held November 28th at 5:30 p.m. at the Vine Street Building of NW Rankin High School. Other tryout dates are Monday, December 11th and Monday, December 18th both at the Vine Drive Building.
The students will tryout using a Genesis bow. The school owns several bows or students may use their own personal bow, as long as it is a Genesis bow and has NOT been modified in any way. With this being said, students who are selected as team members who cannot abide by the safety rules will be dismissed from the team. Also, please know students on the team must maintain their grades, must show good behavior at all times, and complete their assignments in order to remain a part of the archery team.
A fee of $25 will be required for those who make the team, but there is no money in order to try out. Membership on the Archery Team for students is a privilege, not a right. We want all our students to have a rewarding experience as a part of our team. If archers do not consistently contribute to the success of the club, we will not be effective. Please discuss these expectations with your student to be sure that he/she is prepared for the commitment involved. Detach, sign, and return the second page to the school office by Monday, November 27th. Students will not be able to try out without a signed permission slip.
Please keep this letter to review throughout the year with your child.
The archery team will attempt to meet once per week for practice from 5:30-7:00 in the multipurpose room on Vine Street. (Some practices will have to be adjusted because of scheduling conflicts, but you will be notified in advance. This is a closed practice due to safety regulations and ONLY students that are on the archery team will be able to attend. Our team meetings will end promptly at 7:00 pm. Parents must arrive at 7:00 pm to pick up their child(ren). If you’re not prompt in picking your child up, they will no longer be able to stay for our team meetings and will be dismissed from the team.
