Title of Project:OCT Computer Lab Audio Visual System installations______
Description of the Project
The installation of 5 Technology Enhanced Classroom systems for OCT labs which do not currently have any A/V systems installed.
Justification
The Technology Fee should be used for spending on instructional technology and electronic resources that enhance student learning and information and technology literacy
Please provide a statement of the student learning outcomes the project is expected to produce and a plan to assess its effectiveness in meeting those outcomes.
The enhancement to these labs will allows instructors to better convey to the students the subject of their course by providing a visual and clear mean of presenting the course materials. It will also help to standardize all our teaching labs and make them multifunctional. By having all these labs standardized, training on the use of these labs will enable instructors to be able to use any of our lab without having to be trained again.
In an effort to better serve the Queens College students, and improve the quality of instruction, OCT would like to request the installation of five Technology Enhanced Classroom systems. These are existing computer labs and we would like tostandardize all our teaching labs and make them multifunctional. By having all these labs standardized, training on the use of these labs will enable instructors to be able to use any of our lab without having to be trained again.
With hours from 8:00am-9:45pm, Monday- Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am-4:45pm, with an average of 60 hours of class use lab hours, all of these lab facilities have fairly heavy use. We believe that requests for these rooms will increase after the labs are renovated.
OCT can use its lab reservation system to assess the success of the renovations. Although it will not determine whether or not students learn more in these rooms, an increase in faculty requests for these rooms would show success
Which course(s) will use the project and how many students will the project serve?
For example, you could say "All sections of BSKTW 101, 200 students per year," or "All advanced Basket Weaving electives, about 40 students per year," etc.
What is the degree to which the project is integrated into the course curriculum?
For example, if the project is a new computer lab, is use of the lab required or optional, how many hours per semester will the lab be used in the course, etc.
Please provide an explanation of why this instructional need cannot be accommodated in existing department or OCT facilities, or what modifications would be necessary to existing lab(s).
