For undergraduate plans, will this requirement require maintaining a milestone** to verify satisfactory completion? __X____no ______yes

Justification for proposal:

The Program faculty and the local clinical supervisors, as a group, decided that 100 hours of observation was a little over-kill. Thus, it was decided that 80 hours was a reasonable length of time to experience the field of Athletic Training and make a decision whether to enroll in the major or choose a different major. Also, since the students are immediately placed at the clinical site upon entering the Program, the same group thought it was prudent to require them to already be CPR and First Aid certified, to protect the athletes they will be serving.

Also, we are combining our current AT408 course with our clinical education courses (AT 201, 202, 301, 302, 401, 402) and increasing the credits for each of those 1 unit clinical education courses to 2 credits. This will increase the “Major Requirements” of our program by 6 units, total. There will still be only 120 units required to graduate, with the extra 6 “major” credits coming from “electives” – dropping that to a 9 unit requirement.
