Properties of Matter Poster Project
My assigned property of matter is: ______
Students will use a 14” x 22” poster to create a poster about one property of matter in order to teach it to the class. The poster needs to include the following:
- Research matter and its properties. Chapter 2 in the Physical Science text is useful too!
- Give your poster a large and vivid title that can be read across the room. Vivid means there must be “contrast” between the color of your poster and the color of your title
- *Define “matter” on your poster. If you define it properly you should find that it includes 2 sub-definitions. Make sure you explain what each means.
- Research and define your property of matter on your poster—use your own words.
- *Research the concepts of a “Chemical Property” and “Physical Property”. Is your property a physical property or a chemical property? Why? Learn about what they are and then prove that you understand why your property is that.
- Include 3 examples of your property of matter on your poster. Ex: if your property is ability to rust you could include an image of a nail. Internet printout images are recommended. Captions for each should be included.
- Give your property a “nickname” that shows you REALLY get what it is.
- One component of the poster must be 3 dimensional. Do not include anything that is valuable. (Do not use clay, food or any heavy objects, as they will fall off the poster.) The 3-D component does not also count as an example (see # 6 above).
- Be neat, organized and accurate. Use lots of color through brightly colored poster board, markers, etc.
- When you create your poster the emphasis should be on “showing”, not telling!
- Include your name and period on your poster—in the top right hand corner
- Now fill out the self evaluation sheet
* these steps require the most thought
You will be responsible for learning all properties listed on the reverse side and demonstrating that understanding on a quiz. Note that there is a Properties of Matter power point available on my site for you to review.
