About the Event:

Rwanda Horticulture Inter professional Organization (RHIO), and AgriProFocus networks organize a regional horticulture event to be held in Kigali on November 25th-27th, 2015 in a view to address market access related challenges. The three day event with both forums and exhibitions will be held in Kigali. The event will bring together key stakeholders along the horticulture value chain from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Eastern Congo, Zambia and Ethiopia and the Netherlands.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE:

The organizing members in Rwanda are organizing a business innovation competition in which winners will also compete with other winners from participating countries. Indeed, other AgriProFocus networks will organise Business Innovation Competitions in their respective countries. The challenge objective of the business innovation is to award key innovations in horticulture in the categories of productivity, market access, access to finance, regional trade and gender/youth inclusion. During the challenge, each participant will be given 5 minutes to present his/her innovation to a panel of independent judges selected by the different AgriProFocus networks. The public will also have a chance to vote for their favourite innovation via the online platform by liking the specific innovation they vote for which will contribute to 10% of the total vote. The event is to take place on 10th November

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Are you active in the horticulture sector? Do you have an innovation either in the way you work or do business and believe you can win this challenge? Apply under any of the 5 following categories: production, market access, access to finance, regional trade and inclusion (gender/youth). The competition is open to private companies, producer groups, NGOs, research and academic institutions, and government institutions but must be involved in the horticulture sector. The competition is open to participants from the countries of Burundi, Eastern Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

THE WINNER OF THE INNOVATION CHALLENGE:

The best 3 pitches per country will be awarded a fully sponsored trip to attend the Regional event in Kigali covering transport and accommodation. The winners per country will also compete with winners from other countries for the ultimate prize. During the event, you will be given an opportunity to pitch your innovative product and your business case to expand your horticulture businesses into the regional market. The winners will also get media coverage in newspapers and TV. The winners in Kigali will 2000, 1500 and 1000 dollars,
